JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

A Ships in Service Surveyor is an expert acting in the Fleet Management Classification and Statutory Certification activities as defined in the Ships in Service Surveyor Certification Scheme. He/She is always under the supervision of a SSQM (Ships in Service Quality Manager). A Marine Management Systems Auditor (MMSA) is an expert acting in the Management Systems Certification activities as defined in the related TNS’s (0034 and 0044). An Auditor is always under the supervision of a CSQM (Crew and Systems Quality Manager) or Delegate CSQM.

  • Carry out surveys and audits, draw up and send relevant reports to the SSQM / CSQM, in compliance with the FM and inland specific procedures,
  • Assess the conditions necessary for carrying out surveys/audits to the expected quality level, against his/her own abilities, availability and the conditions on board,
  • Surveyors/Auditors should request from their SSQM/CSQM advice on any questions they deem beyond their abilities,
  • Ensure the quality of their services,
  • Provide information and support necessary to CDs, NS operations managers, SSQMs, CSQMS, MOCs and MOs as concerns missions involving them.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor of engineering or having a technical diploma (college of technology of equivalent), both having a minimum of two-year programme, or to be qualified by a marine or nautical institution and to have an appropriate experience as a recognized ship officer.

Language: Proficiency in English and Malay. Additional languages are an advantage.

Computer Skills: Computer literate.

Work Experience: Preferably at least 2 years of experience in the maritime industry. Experience of five years or more in technical or operational aspects of shipboard management is considered an added advantage. Such experience may be obtained through any of the following pathways:

  • Ship classification or statutory survey work, or
  • Sea going service as a certificated watch keeping officer, or
  • Employment in a technical position within a ship management company (e.g., technical manager, superintendent, operations manager), or
  • Any combination of the above.

  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team
  • High standards of integrity and professional ethics
  • Possession of a car and a valid driving license
  • Valid passport and ability to travel internationally
  • Medically fit for offshore duties, including boat transfers and confined‑space entry
