1. Position Details
1.1. Position API Plant Inspector
1.2. Office / Department Industry / Inspection Services
1.3. Reporting to Lead Oil & Gas / Operations Manager
1.4. Key Working Relationship Inspection/operations teams, engineering teams in BV Industry department
2. Minimum Required Qualifications
2.1. Specialty Plant Inspection – Pressure Equipment, Process Piping and Aboveground Storage Tanks
2.2. Education Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Engineering or a related technical discipline.
2.3. Training API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector, API 570 Piping Inspector and API 653 Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector certifications. Relevant NDT, welding inspection and HSE training as applicable.
2.4. Technical knowledge Knowledge of API 510, API 570 and API 653 requirements; pressure vessels, process piping and aboveground storage tanks; corrosion and damage mechanisms; inspection planning; visual inspection; thickness measurement; NDT methods; welding and fabrication practices; applicable ASME/API codes, specifications and client requirements.
2.5. Experience Relevant experience in inspection of pressure vessels, process piping and/or aboveground storage tanks in oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, power or industrial plants. Experience with in-service and shutdown/turnaround inspection, NDT coordination/review, thickness monitoring and preparation of technical inspection reports.
3. Responsibilities / Authorities / Accountabilities
3.1. Primary Functions
• Perform inspection of pressure vessels, process piping and aboveground storage tanks in accordance with applicable API standards, approved procedures and client requirements.
• Conduct in-service, periodic, shutdown and turnaround inspections as assigned.
• Review drawings, equipment data, inspection history, previous reports and relevant specifications before inspection.
• Identify and document corrosion, erosion, cracking, leakage, deformation, deterioration and other damage mechanisms.
• Perform or witness visual inspection, thickness measurements and other assigned inspection activities.
• Review NDT results and verify inspection findings against applicable acceptance criteria.
• Prepare accurate inspection reports, records and recommendations for repair, replacement, further inspection or engineering assessment.
3.2. Technical Expertise
• Apply API 510, API 570 and API 653 requirements within the applicable inspection scope.
• Evaluate inspection findings against applicable codes, standards, specifications and approved procedures.
• Assess corrosion/thickness trends and support determination of remaining serviceability where within the inspector’s scope.
• Identify inspection requirements for pressure vessels, piping circuits and storage tanks.
• Coordinate with qualified NDT personnel and review NDT documentation.
• Maintain technical integrity, traceability and confidentiality of inspection records.
• Escalate findings requiring engineering/fitness-for-service assessment or specialist evaluation.
3.3. Business Requirements
• Complete inspection assignments within agreed scope, schedule, quality and commercial requirements.
• Maintain complete and timely inspection documentation and records.
• Communicate additional inspection requirements, technical observations and potential scope changes through the appropriate management/client channels.
• Support client retention and business development through professional service delivery while maintaining technical independence and impartiality.
3.4. Self Management
• Plan daily inspection activities and manage priorities effectively.
• Maintain valid API certifications, competence records and required training.
• Keep current with applicable codes, standards, procedures and technical developments.
• Maintain professional independence, confidentiality and ethical conduct.
• Promptly escalate technical uncertainties, safety concerns, non-conformities and critical findings.
3.5. Customer Focus
• Understand and confirm client inspection scope and requirements before execution.
• Communicate inspection findings clearly, objectively and professionally.
• Provide evidence-based inspection results and timely technical reports.
• Coordinate inspection activities with client representatives to minimize disruption to plant operations.
• Respond professionally to client technical queries within the approved scope of responsibility.
3.6. HSE Requirements
- Comply at all times with all applicable legal requirements, BV HSE Policies, procedures and practices.
- Maintain personal work areas tidy and hazard free and report any deviation/fault/hazard immediately to the location manager/line manager/HSE Representative
- Report immediately to HSE Representative any newly identified hazard and participate in devising suitable operational control to eliminate/minimize the pertinent risk.
- Report immediately to HSE Representative any HSE incident and cooperate in investigation
- Reporting all incidents and taking action whenever they see an unsafe act or condition
- Take care of your own health and safety and that of people who may be affected by what you do (or do not do).
- Co-operate with others on health and safety, and not interfere with, or misuse, anything provided for your health, safety or welfare.
4. Performance Monitoring
4.1. Continual Development Maintain and improve API inspection competency through relevant training, certification renewal, code/standard updates, technical learning, field experience, lessons learned and participation in internal/external technical development activities.
4.2. KPI’s
• Inspection assignments completed within agreed schedule.
• Accuracy, completeness and timely submission of inspection reports.
• Compliance with applicable API standards, procedures, quality and HSE requirements.
• Client feedback and response time to technical queries.
• Validity of required API certifications and continual competency development.
• Timely identification, documentation and escalation of critical inspection findings.
