Position Details
- Position: Mechanical Inspector
- Office / Department: Tank Supervision Project
- Reporting To: Project Manager / Inspection Lead
- Key Working Relationship: Construction Team, QA/QC Team, Contractor, Client Representatives
Minimum Required Qualifications
Specialty
- Mechanical Inspection of Storage Tanks
Education
- DAE Mechanical with minimum 12 years of tank inspection experience, or
- BE Mechanical with minimum 8 years of tank inspection experience
Training / Certifications
- API 653 Certification (mandatory)
Technical Knowledge
- API 650 requirements
- Tank fabrication and erection activities
- Welding inspection practices
- WPS/PQR/WQT review and verification
- NDT methods and testing requirements
- Hydrostatic testing procedures
- Material certification review
Experience
- Proven experience in inspection and supervision of storage tank construction projects.
Responsibilities / Authorities / Accountabilities
Primary Functions
- Inspect and monitor tank construction activities in accordance with API 650 and approved drawings.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes.
- Report daily progress and inspection findings.
- Supervise on-site mechanical and miscellaneous activities.
Technical Expertise
- Review MTCs for all structural and piping materials.
- Review WPS/PQR and witness Welder Qualification Tests (WQT).
- Inspect material marking prior to plate cutting.
- Verify rolling of shell plates, curb angles, wind girders, and structural components.
- Inspect bottom plate fit-up and reinforcement before welding.
- Ensure installation of bottom plates as per drawings and API 650 requirements.
- Verify welding activities are performed according to approved WPS and welding sequence.
- Inspect shell plate fit-up and reinforcement before welding.
- Monitor shell welding activities and adherence to approved welding sequence.
- Witness diesel testing, pneumatic testing, vacuum testing, and other code-required tests.
- Inspect shell plumbness before and after welding.
- Verify tank roundness, peaking, and banding requirements.
- Review heat treatment procedures for cleanout doors and monitor execution.
- Inspect piping fit-up and welding activities.
- Ensure gasket installation as per approved drawings.
- Verify installation of wind girders and structural components.
- Ensure proper electrode baking and handling practices.
- Witness hydrostatic testing activities.
- Maintain records of all NDT examinations.

Comply at all times with all applicable legal requirements, BV HSE Policies, procedures and practices.
▪ Maintain personal work areas tidy and hazard free and report any deviation/fault/hazard immediately to the location manager/line
manager/HSE Representative.
▪ Report immediately to HSE Representative any newly identified hazard and participate in devising suitable operational control to
eliminate/minimize the pertinent risk.
▪ Report immediately to HSE Representative any HSE incident and cooperate in investigation.
▪ Reporting all incidents and taking action whenever they see an unsafe act or condition.
▪ Take care of your own health and safety and that of people who may be affected by what you do (or do not do).
▪ Co-operate with others on health and safety, and not interfere with, or misuse, anything provided for your health, safety or welfare.
