Structural Inspector for Foundations & Structures

Job Description

  • B.Eng. in Civil Engineering with dual certification under ACI and AISC, or comprehensive knowledge and a minimum of 10 years of experience in structural, foundation, and underground works inspection at refineries or petrochemical.
  • Shall have thorough knowledge of ACI 318, ACI 301, ACI 305, ACI 306, AISC 360, AISC 341, AWS D1.1, and all applicable codes and standards for reinforced concrete design and construction, structural steel fabrication and erection, underground piping, drainage systems, and buried civil works.
  • Capable of inspecting all stages of concrete foundation construction including excavation, subgrade preparation, formwork, reinforcement placement, concrete placement, and curing, as well as all stages of underground works including excavation, bedding, pipe laying, jointing, backfilling, and compaction.
  • Capable of inspecting all stages of structural steel fabrication including material verification, cutting, drilling, fit-up, welding, and surface treatment, and shall verify dimensional accuracy of fabricated structural steel members against approved shop drawings and erection drawings.
  • Shall verify reinforcement bar sizes, spacing, lap lengths, cover depths, and tie requirements against approved structural drawings, and shall verify pipe material specifications, joint types, gradients, and invert levels against approved drawings and specifications for underground works.
  • Shall witness and verify concrete mix design approvals, pre-pour inspections, concrete placement, compaction, and finishing activities, and shall witness and verify pressure testing and leakage testing of underground pipelines and drainage systems.
  • Shall witness and verify bolt installation, tightening, and inspection including snug-tight and pre-tensioned high-strength bolt connections, and shall witness concrete sampling, slump testing, and cube/cylinder testing and monitor results against specified compressive strength requirements.
  • Shall perform visual examination of structural steel welding and identify weld defects including undercut, porosity, incomplete fusion, and cracks, and shall witness and coordinate NDE activities on structural steel welds including UT, MT, and PT examination in accordance with AWS D1.1.
  • Capable of verifying plumbness, levelness, and alignment of erected structural steel and associated connections, and shall perform inspection of anchor bolt setting, embed plates, and equipment base plate grouting activities.
  • Capable of inspecting construction of manholes, sump pits, catch basins, and associated drainage structures, and knowledgeable in soil classification, compaction requirements, and backfill material specifications for underground works.
  • Shall witness compaction testing using nuclear density gauge or Proctor methods and verify results against specifications, and capable of inspecting waterproofing and protective coating systems applied to buried structures and underground pipework.
  • Capable of performing or witnessing concrete core testing, rebound hammer testing, and carbonation depth assessments on existing or in-service concrete, and knowledgeable in pre-stressing and post-tensioning systems and their inspection requirements where applicable.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria:

  • B.Eng Civil Engineering with ACI/AISC knowledge
  • Minimum 10 years of structural inspection experience
  • Strong knowledge of concrete, steel, and underground works
  • Experience in testing and structural verification
  • Relevant project experience of O&G (project construction, QA/QC & Commissioning) is mandatory
  • Candidate must have valid certificates – copy shall be provided along with CV.
