The Electrical - LV Inspector (Solar Projects) ensures the quality, safety, and compliance of low-voltage electrical installations in solar power systems. This includes inspections of solar PV components, cabling, inverters, and energy storage systems in line with project specifications and applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspection and Quality Control:
- Inspect and verify the installation of low-voltage components in solar PV systems, including panels, inverters, DC/AC wiring, and energy storage systems.
- Ensure the proper grounding and bonding of electrical systems as per international and local standards.
- Verify the quality of connections, junction boxes, combiner boxes, and cable management systems.
- Compliance with Standards:
- Ensure all LV electrical work complies with industry standards like IEC, NEC, and local electrical codes.
- Monitor installations for adherence to project drawings, specifications, and safety regulations.
- Review and enforce compliance with grid-interconnection requirements for LV systems.
- Testing and Commissioning:
- Witness and inspect electrical testing processes, including insulation resistance, continuity, polarity checks, and inverter functionality.
- Participate in the commissioning of solar PV systems, verifying performance and safety parameters.
- Ensure proper calibration and operation of monitoring systems such as SCADA or equivalent.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive inspection logs, test results, and quality control checklists.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, highlighting non-conformities and recommending corrective actions.
- Assist in preparing documentation for project handover, including as-built drawings and inspection records.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and suppliers to resolve technical issues related to LV systems.
- Attend project meetings to review progress and discuss quality concerns.
- Safety and Risk Management:
- Ensure that all work is performed safely, following company and industry safety standards.
- Conduct site inspections to identify and mitigate electrical safety risks.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent technical qualification. - Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical inspections, with at least 2 years in solar PV projects.
- Hands-on experience with solar PV systems, including inverters, DC/AC systems, and energy storage.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of solar PV systems and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Proficiency in interpreting single-line diagrams, layouts, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with grid interconnection standards and solar-related certifications.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork capabilities.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Certified Solar PV Installer or Inspector (e.g., NABCEP or equivalent).
- Training in LV systems or solar PV technologies.
- Safety certifications like OSHA or NEBOSH.
Work Environment:
- Majority of work performed on solar project sites, often in outdoor conditions.
- Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols.
