Job Summary:
The Geotechnical Specialist will plan and review ground investigation programs and deliver geotechnical recommendations for utility-scale solar PV plants, substations, and site developments. This role involves providing inputs on foundation design, platform stability, and slope assessments, while ensuring constructability and risk mitigation in coordination with Hydrology and Structural teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and assess site investigations (boreholes, CPT, test pits) and laboratory tests to derive geotechnical parameters.
- Conduct bearing capacity and settlement checks for shallow and deep foundations, liquefaction screening, and propose ground improvement methods.
- Perform slope stability assessments using limit equilibrium methods and finite element analysis for complex geometries.
- Review contractors’ Geotechnical Design Reports (GDRs), method statements, and plan proof testing/instrumentation.
- Prepare Design Review Reports (DRRs), calculation notes, and closure logs; participate in site inspections and construction support.
Deliverables:
- Geotechnical Design Reports with interpreted soil parameters and recommendations.
- Foundation and slope stability calculations, including ground improvement proposals.
- Construction verification checklists and DRRs with issue closure tracking.
Qualifications:
- Education: PRC-licensed Civil Engineer (required); MS in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering is a plus.
- Experience: 4–10 years in geotechnical design and investigations for infrastructure or energy projects, with exposure to slope stability and foundation design.
Technical Tools:
- Free Tools: QGIS for terrain and geomorphology mapping; spreadsheets for parametric studies.
- Paid Tools (as needed): GeoStudio/SLOPE-W (limit equilibrium); PLAXIS 2D/3D (finite element analysis).
Standards & Interfaces:
- Coordination with DPWH drainage/flood references for platform stability.
- Interface with structural checks per NSCP standards.
Soft Skills:
- Strong reporting and risk communication skills.
- Focus on constructability and interdisciplinary coordination.
Performance Indicators:
- Technical adequacy in peer audits and client reviews.
- Timely identification and resolution of risks and constructability issues.
- Completeness and timeliness of DRRs.
- Safety and quality compliance during field engagements.
