Job Summary:

 

The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily field operations in support of assigned construction projects. This role serves as the on-site field leader and is accountable for subcontractor coordination, schedule adherence, work sequencing, site logistics, safety compliance, quality control, and daily progress monitoring. The Construction Superintendent works closely with project leadership, contractors, trade partners, inspectors, and client/site representatives to support safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution.

 

This role requires strong field leadership, deep knowledge of construction methods and sequencing, and the ability to resolve issues in real time while maintaining alignment with project scope, safety requirements, schedule milestones, and quality standards.

  1. Supervises and coordinates daily field operations across assigned trades, contractors, and work activities.
  2. Ensures field work is executed in accordance with project schedules, drawings, specifications, quality standards, and site requirements.
  3. Coordinates subcontractors, trade partners, deliveries, equipment usage, and field logistics to support efficient project execution.
  4. Maintains regular field presence to monitor progress, identify issues, and resolve conflicts in real time.
  5. Tracks daily progress, manpower, productivity, and field conditions, and communicates status updates to project leadership.
  6. Supports schedule adherence by coordinating work sequencing, look-ahead planning, and resolution of field constraints.
  7. Enforces safety requirements and monitors compliance with applicable safety procedures, site rules, and safe work practices.
  8. Conducts or supports toolbox talks, field coordination meetings, and daily site communications.
  9. Verifies work quality and supports inspections, punch list development, corrective actions, and turnover activities.
  10. Identifies risks, constraints, and productivity concerns and escalates issues as needed with clear recommendations.
  11. Serves as a liaison between field teams, subcontractors, project leadership, and other stakeholders to promote effective communication and alignment.
  12. Maintains accurate field documentation and reports related to progress, manpower, constraints, safety observations, and quality issues.
  13. Complies with applicable federal, state, and local legal requirements, as well as company policies, procedures, and project requirements.
  14. Delivers outstanding customer service through timely response and proactive solutions to clients and stakeholder needs.
  15. Protects operations by keeping company information confidential. Use of professional discretion and judgment is mandatory.
  16. Demonstrates BV’s guiding principles in support of the company's strategic goals.
  17. Follows all documented policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and Work Instructions applicable to the position and support of BV's quality standards and strategic initiatives.
  18. Maintains safe and clean work area by complying with all procedures, rules, and regulations.

Division / Role Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supports field execution in complex industrial, manufacturing, brownfield, retrofit, renovation, or similar high-complexity project environments, as applicable to the assigned project or program.
  2. Coordinates field work in active operating environments where sequencing, access, shutdowns, tie-ins, equipment constraints, and operational interfaces must be carefully managed.
  3. Oversees site logistics, material deliveries, equipment usage, work access, and congestion management in support of project-specific requirements.
  4. Supports demolition, retrofit, and phased construction activities adjacent to existing systems, structures, or ongoing operations, as applicable to the assignment.
  5. Coordinates daily site walks and proactively identifies and resolves field issues related to sequencing, safety, quality, access, and productivity.
  6. Supports project-specific turnover, startup, commissioning preparation, and closeout activities, as required by the assigned project or program.
  7. Travel by Plane, Motor Vehicle, Train (approx. 100% of time if not local to the project site) to client/project sites across the U.S. required.
  8. This position is 100% on-site.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

Indirectly supervises employees within the field team. Carries out indirect supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work.

 

Skills

  • Solid understanding of scheduling (Primavera, MS Project, or similar is a plus)
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices

  • Ability to manage multiple trades and priorities simultaneously
  • Experience with Autodesk, Procore, PlanGrid, or similar construction software
  • Background in design-build or EPC/EPCM projects (preferred)

Education, Certifications, and Experience

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of field supervision experience in industrial construction, commercial construction, manufacturing, or related environments.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, safety requirements, and field execution practices.
  • Experience in brownfield, renovation, retrofit, shutdown/outage, or live operating environments preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification required or preferred based on assignment.
  • Experience with construction management software such as Autodesk, Procore, PlanGrid, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Background in design-build, EPC, or EPCM projects preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required with no significant motor vehicle report (MVR) points/violations (clean driving record).
  • Employees who incur $2,000 or more per year in company-related travel expenses will be required to obtain a Corporate Credit Card. Employees who incur less than $2,000 per year in company-related travel expenses will be required to have sufficient personal credit to cover their business travel costs.

  • Climb and balance various types of ladders to access flat roofs/hatch access (at least once for each building assessed) 
  • Repetitive use of hands/fingers for keyboard interaction (frequently)

  • Work Environment: The employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical components and assemblies, frequently exposed to work near energized electrical components and assemblies. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat, inclement weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level at the project site is usually moderate.
