Job Description:
To provide general support in the analysis of samples, and to perform sample preparations (filtrations, extractions, digestions).
Key Accountability/Responsibilities:
• Prepare water and waste water samples for various Inorganic testing in a timely manner.
• Perform Digestions/Extractions on Environmental water, and solid samples.
• Use Summary reports/TAT to plan and organize work to ensure Hold Time and deadlines are met.
• Ensure that sample switch, cross contamination between samples and other material does not occur.
• Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure accuracy and quality of work.
• Follow all laboratory safety rules and regulations and promptly report any Near hits/unsafe conditions and/or behaviours.
• Keep work area clean, neat and organized.
• Contribute to daily and weekly planning.
• Perform daily verification of volumetric devices/Balances and other equipment when needed.
• Recognizes routine and non-routine problems and consults with Group Lead/Supervisor
• Other responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
Skills and Knowledge: What skills and knowledge are used to carry out job responsibilities and solve problems?
• Minimum of a diploma in Chemical Technology from an approved institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good record keeping skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to accurately follow Standard operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions.
• Dynamic, energetic, motivated, positive outlook and a "can-do" attitude.
Work Relationships
• Internal: Internal: This position involves daily engagement with coworkers to exchange information, and with their supervisor for scheduling, instructions and training
• External: Customer Service, Purchasing, QA, Pre-processing and Main Lab Departments.
Working Conditions: physical work environment, physical and mental effort, visual/listening attention and travel
• Lab Technicians are expected to perform repetitive analyses and sample preparations using a variety of equipment as required and according to deadlines established by their supervisor.
• This job requires flexible working hours and shift work
• Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment.
