Position Overview

 

Bureau Veritas is seeking a Lab Technician - Metals Group Processing to join our Metals Processing Department, reporting to the Supervisor Metals Group. This role provides general support in the analysis of samples and performs simple sample preparations to ensure accurate and timely laboratory results.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Prepare water and wastewater samples for various inorganic testing in a timely manner
  • Perform digestions/extractions/filtration on environmental water and soil samples
  • Use summary reports/TAT to plan and organize work to ensure hold time and deadlines are met
  • Ensure that sample switch and cross contamination between samples and other materials does not occur
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy and quality of work
  • Follow all laboratory safety rules and regulations
  • Promptly report any near hits/unsafe conditions and/or behaviors
  • Keep work area clean, neat and organized
  • Perform daily verification of volumetric devices/balances and other equipment when needed
  • Contribute to daily and weekly planning
  • Recognize routine and non-routine problems and consult with Group Lead/Supervisor
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of a diploma in Chemical Technology from an approved institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good record-keeping skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions
  • Dynamic, energetic, motivated, positive outlook and a "can-do" attitude

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Laboratory environment with repetitive analyses and sample preparations using a variety of equipment
  • Work according to deadlines established by supervisor
  • Requires flexible working hours and shift work
  • Handling of hazardous materials using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment
  • Physical and mental effort required for laboratory operations
  • Visual/listening attention for precise analytical work
