Special Inspector - Professional Engineer
Location: New York City, NY
Step into the pulse of New York City’s construction landscape.
We are seeking experienced and licensed Special Inspectors (P.E.) for immediate openings across the five boroughs. This field-based role supports high-profile construction projects ranging from complex high-rise developments to major infrastructure and transportation initiatives.
The Special Inspector will play a critical role in ensuring structural integrity, regulatory compliance, and public safety — safeguarding the built environment through technical precision and disciplined execution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform Special Inspections in accordance with Chapter 17 of the NYC Building Code.

Conduct field inspections across a range of project types and sizes throughout NYC and NJ.

Inspect pile installations and geotechnical conditions per applicable code requirements.

Ensure construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, and governing codes.

Prepare detailed, accurate, and timely inspection reports and supporting documentation.

Interface directly with contractors, project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies.

Identify deficiencies and provide clear communication regarding corrective actions.

Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols and job-site regulations.

Support additional inspection scopes as required based on project needs.
Education, Certifications, and Experience (Required)
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architecture.
-
Minimum 3+ years of inspection experience within NYC projects of varying size and complexity.
-
Strong working knowledge of Chapter 17 of the NYC Building Code and related inspection requirements.
-
Minimum 5+ years of direct construction inspection experience in NYC or NJ preferred.
Certificates, Licenses & Training
-
Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in New York or New Jersey (Civil or Structural).
-
Familiarity with NYC and International Building Codes.
-
Hands-on experience inspecting pile installations and geotechnical conditions per Chapter 17.

Current safety training in:

Fall Protection

Scaffolding and Ladder Safety

Work-Zone Safety

OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification (minimum requirement).
Physical and Environmental Conditions

Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Rate: $65 – $75 per hour (commensurate with experience and location)
