We are seeking a Resident Engineer/Inspector (REI) with an active Professional Engineer (PE) license to serve as the owner’s representative on large-scale heavy civil infrastructure projects. This role is PE-driven, combining engineering oversight, construction management, and project leadership. The REI will provide daily on-site supervision, ensure compliance with design and contract requirements, and coordinate with contractors, agencies, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Candidates must hold a New York PE license; a New Jersey PE license is highly desirable as the company expands into NJ. This is a fully on-site, long-term role with direct responsibility for managing complex projects including bridges, tunnels, heavy foundations, utility relocations, and civil infrastructure work.
Key Responsibilities
Project Oversight & Field Management
- Serve as the owner’s on-site representative, overseeing all construction activities and contractor operations.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, codes, and contract documents.
- Conduct daily field inspections, documenting progress, safety compliance, and quality control issues.
- Resolve field conflicts and design clarifications promptly to minimize delays.
- Manage multiple stakeholders, including contractors, subcontractors, design teams, utility companies, and regulatory agencies.
Project Controls & Financial Management
- Manage project schedules using Primavera P6, reviewing and updating progress regularly.
- Track project budgets, forecasting expenditures and managing cash flow.
- Review, negotiate, and approve change orders, including pricing, estimating, and assessing budget impacts.
- Prepare and maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports, logs, and project documentation.
- Monitor compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Engineering Leadership & Professional Oversight
- Apply professional engineering judgment in evaluating design and construction issues.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff and field engineers.
- Conduct inspections, testing, and verification to ensure quality standards are met.
- Support construction management processes, including scheduling, estimating, and risk mitigation.
- Act as a liaison between the owner and project teams, advocating for project goals and ensuring alignment with objectives.
Qualifications
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York required; New Jersey PE license preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or related Engineering field.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in resident engineering, construction inspection, and project management for heavy civil projects.
- Demonstrated experience with bridges, tunnels, heavy foundations, utility relocations, and large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, codes, and standards.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6, project scheduling, budgeting, estimating, and forecasting.
- Experience managing change orders, contract administration, and construction negotiations.
- Professional certifications such as CCM, PMP, or CWI strongly preferred.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work fully on-site, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a proactive approach to project delivery.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual Salary: $130,000++
