Job Description – Analyst 1
- Perform routine and complex sample preparation and instrument analysis with minimal supervision while meeting required turnaround times after required training has been completed
- Complete independent post-analysis data processing including data review and interpretation for quality control issues prior to release to clients, uploading to appropriate laboratory information management systems, and process-compliant processing of data prior to release to clients
- Perform peer review of analytical data generated from other analysts prior to release to clients to screen quality control issues
- Successfully complete a published training process for sample preparation, analysis, and data processing
- Ensure requirements are met for initial demonstrations of competency in terms of both processing and expected outcome
- Independently determine required workload for sample processing determined from a laboratory inventory management system and successfully multi-task and prioritize workload accordingly
- Work closely with other analysts within the laboratory to complete sample preparation/analytical tasks to maintain laboratory-wide turnaround times as appropriate
- Perform work of required quality and quantity as to meet laboratory/quality benchmarks verifiable by statistical analysis.
- Perform simple routine maintenance on the instrumentation they have been trained
- Demonstrate independent analytical problem solving and process improvement, including investigatory work regarding quality control issues
- Follow safety requirements including the appropriate use of safety glasses, gloves, and lab coats
- Execute and maintain proper laboratory workspace hygiene daily
- Adhere to company procedures and policies
- Perform other duties as requested where appropriate given demonstrated skill/training
- Be able to perform tasks standing and/or sitting for multiple hours as necessary given on-site needs for work.
Required Experience, Education, Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or science field with some applicable analytical experience
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
The ability to follow established protocols for analysis and safety. Comfort working with/around concentrated acids and using required PPE. Availability for overtime work on evenings and weekends to meet client workload demands. Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Willingness to cross-train in other laboratory departments, as needed. Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
Preferred, but not required:
Preparation of samples using concentrated and dilute acids and analysis of samples using any of the following: IC Spectrophotometry, ISE, and UV/Vis. Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: analytical balances, pipettes, chemical exhaust hoods, and laboratory ovens/furnaces.
