Basic Purpose:

The Specialist is responsible for managing and optimizing Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) projects while developing comprehensive data visualization solutions to enhance operational efficiency, customer service, and strategic decision-making across the organization.

Key Accountability/Responsibilities:

  • The Specialist will review and write LIMS Proposal Requests, ensuring comprehensive documentation and capturing all necessary information. They will draft detailed Project Change Documents (PCDs) and submit them to Business Analysts for review, while simultaneously developing Tableau dashboards that provide actionable insights across departments.
  • The role involves close collaboration with programmers and Business Analysts, facilitating effective communication and project development. The Specialist will test implemented LIMS changes to ensure accuracy and functionality, and create interactive reports using Tableau that translate complex data into understandable visualizations.
  • Additionally, they will implement EDD (Electronic Delivery) Builder protocols to standardize report generation and automate data transfer mechanisms. The Specialist will work closely with staff to identify existing LIMS solutions, promote efficiency, and provide strategic assessments to leadership regarding project viability and implementation efforts.
  • Continuous improvement is a key focus, with the Specialist driving efficiency within LIMS and related systems while ensuring adherence to regulatory conditions for external and internal clients. They will support development and maintenance of Tableau dashboards that integrate multiple data sources, optimize performance, and provide comprehensive documentation of visualization processes. They will develop and maintain Power BI dashboards where Tableau dashboards are not available.
  • The Specialist will have experience with SQL database management systems and will be required to generate data pulls to support individual operational continuous improvement initiatives.
  • The role requires participation in department and Health & Safety meetings, maintenance of training records, and compliance with Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy and quality systems.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Post-secondary education in science, computer science or data science
  • 5+ years of experience in laboratory information systems, preferably with MaxxLIMS
  • Proficiency with Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server/Online, and Tableau Prep Builder is an asset
  • Strong understanding of data visualization principles and best practices
  • Proficiency with PowerBi is an asset
  • Experience in SQL and data manipulation
  • Ability to work with large and complex datasets
  • Proficiency in LIMS software and related technologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience in project management and process improvement
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations and workflows
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and processes
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders across different locations

Working Conditions:

  • Mainly in an office environment or remote work setup.
  • Extended periods of computer use for dashboard development and data analysis.
  • May require occasional flexible working hours to accommodate national team meetings.
  • Mental effort required for problem-solving, data analysis, and creative dashboard design.
  • High level of visual attention required for data visualization and quality assurance.
