Position Summary:
The Synthetic Chemist II is responsible for design, validation and implementation synthesis projects in organic synthesis, peptide synthesis, bioconjugation, purification, and characterization of compounds of interest. Performing testing, producing and reporting accurate data. Responsibilities include general lab duties and maintenance as well as reading and interpreting standards and regulations, setting up tests, monitoring progress and recording data.

• Work closely with senior scientists to accomplish team objectives and research milestones.
• Design, validate and implement synthesis projects in organic synthesis, peptide synthesis, bioconjugation, purification, and characterization of compounds of interest.
• Maintain accurate record keeping, perform independent data analyses, and report data in written and oral formats.
• Critically evaluate data and results and troubleshoot synthesis issues.
• Perform work in compliance with client policies.
• Follow good documentation practices and notebooking.
• Demonstrable ability to function independently, work within a flexible, team-oriented lab environment, and work within cross-functional project teams.
• Follow the guidelines set forth with clients and in the company Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures.
• Comply with clients and company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
• Follows the guidelines set forth in by clients and the company Quality Manual and Safety / Chemical Hygiene Plan.
• Other duties as defined by Manager, department needs and workload.
• Understand and adhere to standards for appropriate test methods and SOP’s.
• Prepare a variety of samples for testing using prescribed testing methods, following testing standards / specifications.
• Perform quality and safety checks on samples submitted prior to testing.
• Conducts testing on a variety of samples using prescribed testing methods, following testing standards / specifications appropriate to the sample.
• Performs testing in coordination with internal and external contacts, coworkers, and supervision from management
• Able to troubleshoot with N+1 for any client issues or questions with the aim of enhancing client satisfaction and improving client relations.
• Accurately report and record test data in electronic notebook or handwritten notebooks as needed in a timely manner
• Prepare a variety of equipment for testing using prescribed standards / specifications
• Report safety, instrument and technical issues to the appropriate contacts.

• Maintain supplies, lab cleanliness and analytical instrumentation, as required.
• Prepare stock solutions, and keeping shelves and reagent stocked.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of current methods and products to be tested.
• Follow the guidelines set forth with clients and in the Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services, Inc Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures.

• Adhere to the requirements of the BV-CPS Quality System.

• Performs testing independently and with limited to no supervision from management.
• Identify, troubleshoot and provide suggested technical solutions to clients and management
• Prepares written technical reports.

Education and Experience:
• BS degree in Chemistry or a closely related field
• Prefer MS or Postgraduate training or equivalent experience in peptide synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and/or combinatorial chemistry.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in wet laboratory research
• Minimum of 1 year of experience with the following:
• designing, validating, performing, and analyzing own experiments to generate synthetic compounds of interest
• HPLC purification
• small-molecule or peptide synthesis, isolation, purification, and characterization
• Demonstratable experience with SPPS or solid-phase support chemistry and using automated synthesizers
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
Compensation Range: $36 - $41 an hour (e.g., the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as locations, education, experience, and skillset).
