Sr. Business Development Manager - Prairies

Basic Purpose:
To be ultimately accountable for driving relations and profitable revenue growth of Prairies Region, with a focus on Alberta and Northeastern British Columba. As part of our growth strategy, the candidate will drive expansion into new, emerging and high growth-potential markets with a focus on driving revenue, market share capture and margin. This role will focus on driving growth and service plans that align with corporate strategies for growth in the Environmental LOB.
Key Accountability/Responsibilities:
Regional Market Development:
- Accountable for translating strategy into annual sales plans which are aligned to key performance metrics.
- Identify and pursue high-potential opportunities in oil & gas, infrastructure, and municipal sectors.
- Leverage local presence to establish deep relationships with engineering firms, contractors, and Indigenous-owned businesses.
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of both high-value RFPs and sole-sourced opportunities aligned with regional priorities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key networks within assigned geography to help drive partnerships and increase sales within respective Business Unit.
- Collaborate with various internal cross-functional groups as needed to support current and prospective clients.
- Leverage experience and consultative selling skills to initiate long-standing relationships with customers and executive sponsors.
- Provide input and may be accountable for indirect sales-related activities: Conferences, Speaking Events, Workshops, Short Courses, Tech Talks, etc.
Client Growth & Retention:
- Lead business development efforts across both new and existing accounts, with a focus on building sustainable, long-term client value.
- Conduct regular engagement sessions with clients to identify upcoming needs, strengthen relationships, and find alignment on strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with Regional and National Directors to co-develop account-specific growth strategies that support broader market goals.
- Work in close partnership with the Project Managers to ensure smooth project execution, clear scope definition, and consistent post-project feedback loops.
- Develop and implement targeted growth strategies for AB and Northeastern BC fostering relationships with industry stakeholders and Indigenous communities to support collaborative projects and initiatives.
- Identify and pursue strategic opportunities for business growth in AB and Northeastern BC within the oil & gas and infrastructure sectors and with Indigenous communities.
- Collaborate with local teams to ensure successful execution of projects, enhancing community engagement and fostering sustainable development in the region.
- Monitor regional market trends and competitive dynamics, providing insights and recommendations for informed decision-making and strategic planning.
Administrative Duties
- Participate in establishing department and territory revenue and expense budgets and goals.
- Liaise between new clients and customer service personnel in establishing Confidential Disclosure Agreements, Statements of Work, and Master Service Agreements as required.
- Participate, when requested in department and health and safety meetings.
- Maintain training records and relevant qualifications.
- Adhere to Bureau Veritas’ Code of Ethics Policy
- Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program.
- All other responsibilities as assigned
Skills and Knowledge:
- University degree in Environmental engineering, environmental science or biology.
- A minimum of 10+ years of experience working with commercial environmental laboratories, or within the environmental sector
- Proven experience in developing and executing on accounts
- Collaborative leader with strong influence skills across matrixed organizations.
- Enjoy being outbound, networking with clients and working independently.
- An energetic personality that can work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ethical, dynamic, motivated, “can-do” attitude, flexible, good judgement and results oriented.
- Excellent customer relationship management skills
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). French is a definite asset but not required.
- Valid driver’s license and demonstrate a safe driving record.
