Senior Electrical Engineer - Renewable Energy

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be part of the BV Owner’s Engineering and Technical Advisory Group, a multi-discipline team focused on servicing clients in the renewable power and utilities industry as well as energy transition projects, including carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) and adjacent oil & gas infrastructure modernization initiatives.

Owner’s Engineering services cover the full CAPEX lifecycle of projects, including conceptual and feasibility studies, permitting support, detailed design review, equipment inspection, construction support, commissioning, and start-up support for both renewable energy facilities and complex industrial energy systems commonly found in carbon capture and oil & gas environments.

This position requires significant technical expertise in electrical engineering and renewable power generation, combined with a client-oriented approach to ensure the required quality level—aligned with applicable industry codes and standards, project technical specifications, and owner requirements—is met while simultaneously minimizing risks to project schedule and cost in large-scale, capital-intensive projects typical of CCUS and oil & gas developments.

The candidate will be responsible for performing design reviews following the BV typical design review process, focusing on the following objectives (including but not limited to):

  • Design meets all specified contractual requirements (owner’s requirements, interconnection/interface requirements, etc.) and complies with applicable codes and standards across renewable, carbon capture, and oil & gas facilities

  • Design includes strategies for confirming and demonstrating that performance requirements can be met under steady-state and transient operating conditions

  • Design drawings, codes, and specifications are full and complete

  • Equipment and components are used within their specified performance envelope and will meet the project’s expected design life in industrial, corrosive, and high-reliability operating environments

  • Cost optimization after considering all project requirements

  • Scheduling considerations are taken into account

  •

The selected candidate should have a strong electrical engineering and project experience background in renewable energy (utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage, and combined generation projects), with strong knowledge of three-phase AC power systems from LV to HV (120V AC to 345kV AC), as well as DC emergency and other battery power systems (up to 125V DC), and experience supporting industrial power systems commonly used in oil & gas facilities and carbon capture plants.

Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for performing design reviews following the BV typical design review process outlined below:

  • Receive design documents and develop a review plan tailored to project-specific risks and operational requirements

  • Verify and confirm applicable codes, standards, and requirements relevant to the project including those commonly applied in oil & gas and carbon capture facilities

  • Check the authenticity and completeness of design documentation

  • Perform design reviews against applicable codes, standards, and owner requirements. At the completion of the review, each drawing is assigned an approval status. During design review, attention shall be given to proper input data and modeling, appropriate selection of design parameters and design conditions, and identification of any nonconformance to contractual requirements. Any issues that impose risk to project schedule or cost will be immediately escalated to the Client with consideration for constructability, operability, and long-term asset reliability

  • Develop and issue review comment reports/logs to the Client

Job Requirements

  • Full knowledge of electrical engineering theories and principles

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as an electrical engineer working on renewable power and related utility projects and/or industrial energy facilities supporting oil & gas and carbon capture operations

  • Extensive experience with IEEE electrical design standards (IEEE Color Books), NFPA, ANSI, NETA, and other related standards

  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and industry practices across both utility-scale renewable and industrial oil & gas applications

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and strong computer skills

  • Experience with power system analysis software tools (ETAP, SKM, PSS/E, ASPEN) is strongly preferred particularly for complex, high-load industrial systems

  • Strong oral and written communication skills that foster positive interpersonal communication

  • Self-motivated individual capable of working independently with minimal oversight in a fast-paced team environment

  • Strong time management skills with the ability to independently plan and organize work

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and support multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment

  • Demonstrated critical thinking, attention to detail, effectiveness in high-stress situations, flexibility, dependability, honesty, and ethical judgment

  • A mix of field engineering, Engineer of Record (EOR), Owner’s Engineering (OE), and EPC experience in renewable energy is highly desirable with transferable experience from oil & gas and carbon capture projects viewed as a strong asset

Education / Certification Requirements

  • A 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering or a 4-year Engineering Technology degree accredited by ABET is required

  • Currently holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license is required
