Hours Worked: Typically, Monday through Friday, forty-hours per week.
However, must be flexible to meet the needs of the department and complete other projects as assigned.
Position Summary:
The Biologist is responsible for assisting the client with sample preparation and analysis needs for an eye irritation project. Most of the work will involve imaging avian cornea slides with light microscopy and then labelling the slides. Associate will also prep and analyze liposome and hemoglobin samples using UV-Vis spectroscopy and titration methods.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Image historical archives of histology slides from regulatory eye irritation tests using light microscopy
- Label histology slides from regulatory eye irritation tests (will involve working on a computer for long stretches of time)
- Prepare liposome-encapsulated fluorescent agent via microfluidic device
- Utilize automated liquid handler to create dilution curves and dose liposome and hemoglobin samples
- Utilize UV-Vis spectroscopy to measure rupturing of liposomes/hemoglobin
- Perform dosing method to treat glass slides with customer products
- Perform titration method to rinse glass slides and measure flow rate of dissolved product
- Follow the guidelines set forth with clients and in the company Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Comply with clients and company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
- Follows the guidelines set forth in by clients and the company Quality Manual and Safety / Chemical Hygiene Plan.
- Other duties as defined by Manager, department needs and workload.
Skills & Proficiencies:
- Precision laboratory skills needed, including micropipetting, balance use, creation of serial dilutions, etc.
- Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly
- Must have good customer service skills- job is client facing and performed in client laboratory
- Must be proficient in basic programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and must have experience with keeping a laboratory notebook
- Must be able to work independently and effectively manage the day-to-day operations of laboratory
- Computer skills: Windows, Word & Excel.

Education and Experience:
- Degree requirement: Bachelor's Degree in biology/chemistry or closely related field
- Previous industry experience preferred but not required
- Experience with imaging and labelling of histology slides preferred
- Experience with automation preferred but not required.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
Compensation Range: $19 - $20 an hour (e.g., the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as locations, education, experience, and skillset).
