Lab Analyst/Technician, Microbiology 1

  • Perform a variety of microbiological testing and ensure that all incoming samples are tested and completed on time using the appropriate sampling procedures, test methods and good laboratory practices along with the proper reporting and maintenance of records.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of microbiological techniques and test methods.
  • Operate, maintain and trouble-shoot laboratory equipment.
  • To uphold the scientific integrity and professional reputation of both themselves and that of the laboratory and exercise professional judgement and seek advice from senior staff with difficult issues.
  • Ensure recognised quality control procedures are in place and documented for new or modified procedures along with identifying and reporting any quality issues and ensure corrective or preventative actions are carried out and completed to the root cause of the issue.
  • Notify the appropriate laboratory analyst, supervisor or Team Leader of any “out-of-spec” or erroneous results, of retests or other issues or problems with samples and analyses.
  • Report all customer complaints or concerns to the laboratory supervisor, Team Leader or Operations Manager and take appropriate action.
  • Sign off reports as a SINGLAS Signatory for the appropriate discipline (where applicable).
  • Participate and contribute to health and safety continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Report all incidents, including near misses, whether or not these incidents involve actual consequences, ensure safe work practices are followed and proactively promote safe behaviour and injury prevention.
  • Participate in training and working safely including the proper use of safety equipment. Ensure safety at work is top priority.

Job Requirements: 

  • Possess minimum Diploma in Microbiology/Chemistry/Food Science or related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience in food testing laboratories.
  • Possess work experience in similar or within an accreditation/certification industry will be an advantage
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and team player
