Position Summary:

The Lead Chemist is responsible for the efficient day-to-day operations of the lab including analyst assignment, testing workflow and compliance. The Lead Chemist is also responsible for driving the completion of lab tasks and assignments on time and consistent with meeting client expectations. This role is also responsible for training and coaching lab associates under the direction of the Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating daily workflow with client and management ensuring the lab meets all testing deadlines.
  • Perform identification, gravimetric, qualitative, and physical testing on a routine basis as assigned
  • Execute titration testing and chromatography
  • Perform chromatography testing on a routine basis as assigned
  • Utilize basic instrumentation to perform testing on a routine basis as assigned
  • Perform quality review of testing completed
  • Perform method validations and verifications as needed
  • Identify and/or initiate improvement initiatives

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to train, coach and provide feedback in a constructive way.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management and clients, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to troubleshoot sample, method, or equipment outages and to think critically and provide solutions.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication required
  • Familiarity and comfort with electronic software systems including Microsoft products, spreadsheets, communication platforms including conference, messaging, and email systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and train on all technical aspects of the lab.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills such as communication, relationship building, initiative, adaptable, positive attitude, and team building.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or closely related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a laboratory setting
  • Experience in GMP or cGMP regulated laboratory setting preferred.
  • Experience in the consumer products, pharmaceuticals or personal care industry is preferred.

 

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
