Building Official


 
C.A.P. Government, Inc. is seeking to hire an individual who is highly motivated, detail-oriented,
and a team player and who is certified or certifiable as a Building Official.  This position requires
a minimum of 10 (ten) plus years’ experience and demonstrates both strong technical competency
(especially as related to building codes and associated issues) and solid managerial skills. The
position requires candidates to be solutions-oriented; to stay current in the field; communicate
effectively to a variety of audiences; and to be able to build strong, positive working relationships.

The candidate must be a self-starter with a strong commitment to the profession and a proven
leader with a track record of delivering results. 
 

Duties, Responsibilities, and Qualifications
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
 Provide strong and effective leadership and supervision of the employees comprising the
Building Division, ensuring a well-run department with efficiently balanced work
distribution;  
 Communicate with municipal and company managers and staff. 
 Communicate current and changing building codes, monitor and report on trends;  
 Handle all managerial duties including development of the division budget, ongoing
financial oversight, complaint response, and management reporting;  
 Facilitate meetings as an effective tool for employees to work in partnership with other
divisions or departments to attain stated goals;  
 Prepares and presents oral and written reports;  
 Evaluate current systems, procedures, and policies, in particular to internal workflow and
the overall design review processes; identify areas that require updating or reengineering,
and implement necessary changes in a timely and cost-effective manner;  
 Participates in and conducts preliminary plan reviews;  
 Conducts inspections on complex projects and assists inspectors, plan check engineers, and
permit technician staff in resolving problems; 
 Experience in the implementation and management of a paperless plan review and
inspections system is preferred. 
Required Education, Experience, and Skills 
 Reviews codes, regulations and standards to keep abreast of the latest edition of the Florida
Building Code. 
 Participates in training conferences, and other continuing education programs to keep
current with technology, maintain skills, and meet current licensing requirements. 
 A bachelor’s degree in a related field is a plus 
 A minimum of ten (5) years experience in a supervisory capacity.

 License and Certification 
 Certified Building Code Administrator by the State of Florida Department of Business
and Professional Regulation. 
 State of Florida Professional Engineer OR State of Florida Registered Architect is a plus! 
 Must be certified or certifiable as a Building Official by the Miami-Dade and or the
Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA).
