Job Title and Purpose

 

The Laboratory Equipment & Technology Specialist will support the planning, technical specification, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of scientific laboratory and genebank equipment, ensuring that solutions are fit for purpose and aligned with recognized laboratory and biosafety standards.

 

Job Location

 

Will be based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, with project and site visits as required.

Assignment duration: 5 months. Expected mobilization: February 2027.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Laboratory Planning: Review laboratory functions, workflows, equipment needs, utilities, and technology interfaces for scientific laboratories and genebank facilities.
  • Technical Specifications: Prepare and/or review technical specifications, equipment schedules, performance requirements, and procurement documentation.
  • Technical Evaluation: Support technical evaluation of suppliers, proposed equipment, submittals, and compliance with project requirements.
  • FAT / SAT: Plan, witness, and document Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests where applicable.
  • Installation & Commissioning: Coordinate installation, integration, testing, calibration, and commissioning of laboratory equipment and systems.
  • Standards & Biosafety: Verify alignment with relevant laboratory quality and biosafety requirements, including ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 15189, and BSL-2/BSL-3 considerations.
  • Handover Support: Review operating manuals, training, warranties, and handover documentation and support final acceptance of equipment.

 

Measures of success

 

  • Laboratory equipment is technically compliant, properly tested, commissioned, and ready for intended scientific use.
  • Technical procurement and acceptance activities are completed with clear documentation and minimal interface issues.

 

Requirements to be a successful candidate

 

  • Education: Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Laboratory Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: 10-12 years of experience in planning, procurement, installation, and commissioning of scientific laboratories, genebanks, or comparable facilities.
  • Project Experience: Experience on at least one major EPC or turnkey project involving laboratory equipment and technology systems.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 15189, BSL-2/BSL-3 requirements, and FAT/SAT processes.
  • Languages: Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Russian or Uzbek is a distinct advantage.
  • Skills: Strong technical evaluation, documentation, vendor coordination, commissioning, and problem-solving skills.
