Position Summary and Objectives – Regional Director of Field Operations
- The Regional Director of Field Operations reports to the Director of Operations – Central Region, based in the Plano, TX office. The Regional Director of Field Operations will have responsibilities for leading a multi-disciplined inspection team and managing the day-to-day operational performance of the inspection and technical team and will have a close working relationship with the plan review, office team, and other technical service lines.
Major Responsibilities
- Manage, plan, and direct the regional municipal operations; supervise workflow of assigned staff; evaluate work products, methods, and procedures.
- Assist Director of Operations in recruitment and hiring of staff to support the workload.
- Ensure inspections are performed in a timely manner, and in accordance with established procedures.
- Coordinate inspection activities with other departments, divisions, and outside agencies to resolve issues and enhance customer service.
- Conduct meetings with project stakeholders, property owners, developers, and designers to explain codes, policies, and procedures and to mediate/resolve conflicts and respond to questions concerning field inspection activities.
- Provide oversight for complex projects during the inspection and review process if needed and monitor the tracking and progress of projects.
- Analyze and make recommendations to policies, methods, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of inspection operations.
- Ensure uniform application and implementation of ordinances, codes, standards, and regulations through inspection activities.
- Respond to inquiries and concerns from engineers, architects, contractors, staff, and the public regarding field inspection issues.
- Interpret codes, standards, laws, and regulations; resolves building code issues during the inspection process in the field.
- Conduct research and analysis of complex technical issues; evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations.
- Monitor performance measures and prepare related reports; Oversight of all IAS evaluations and reports pertaining to inspection personnel.
- Participate in the administration of building permit system, records management, and technology improvements to enhance operations and customer service.
- Stay current with new development or changes in codes, standards, materials, and technology; and
- Perform other duties as assigned and required by Director of Operations – Central Region
- Develop specific growth strategies to generate leads, growth, and market awareness, directly leading to revenue growth in the region.
Education and Experience
- Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in building inspections; and
- Two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity pertaining to inspections and building department/divisions.
Additional Requirements include:
- Certification as a Combination Residential and Commercial Inspector or Certified Building Official by the International Code Council (ICC) is required (Master Code Professional preferred/encouraged)
- Excellent customer service/problem solving skills and ability to work well with internal staff and team.
- Periodic travel will be required as needed and attendance at related trade shows will be necessary.
- After-hours work will be required as needed for Council Meetings, Client Workshops, Travel, etc.
- Communication, knowledge, and understanding of all regions within the regional area and the perspective Area Managers and Staff.
- Consistent and regular communication will be expected at a high level with all staff and clients.
