Job Title: Business Development Manager, Canada – Minerals Laboratory

Reports to: Vice President, Business Development

Department: Metals and Minerals – Business Development 

Location: Vancouver, B.C.

 

Basic Purpose:

 

Reporting to the Vice President of Business Development, the Business Development Manager, Canada, is responsible for driving sales growth and promoting Bureau Veritas Metals and Minerals laboratory services – including geochemistry, onsite laboratories (OSL) and metallurgy – across Canada. Working in a dynamic, collaborative environment, the incumbent develops new business opportunities, strengthens client relationships, and crafts tailored solutions for unique client and project needs. 

 

This role combines consultative, customer-centric selling with strategic business development to expand penetration of key accounts and increase market awareness of Bureau Veritas services and capabilities within the mining and minerals industry. The position requires regular travel for client meetings, site visits, conferences and industry events, and work may occasionally involve visits to laboratories or industrial environments requiring appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). 

 

 

 

Key Accountability/Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Comply with all applicable occupational health, safety, environmental and quality legislation, policies and procedures, including BV Group and Upstream Minerals (UM) Management System policies and applicable ISO standards.  
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture and a professional work environment. 
  • Develop and maintain new and existing client relationships within the mining, minerals and related industries, spanning geochemistry, onsite labs (OSL) and metallurgy. 
  • Listen to and understand customer perspectives, leveraging personal and team experience to shape the value proposition and service offering to the customer and the wider industry. 
  • Sell standard, customized and non-standard laboratory services tailored to specific projects and client requirements, and act as the sales lead on internal and client-facing strategic projects. 
  • Increase sales by developing and expanding penetration with key accounts, supporting the full sales cycle from lead generation through negotiation and close of deal. 
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans and business development initiatives to support regional growth objectives. 
  • Collaborate with Operations Managers, laboratory teams and clients to ensure customer requirements and expectations are understood, achieved and managed. 
  • Represent Bureau Veritas at industry conferences, trade shows, client meetings and networking events, and participate in marketing programs promoting new and existing services. 
  • Prepare quotations, proposals, tenders, presentations and supporting documentation, and assist in scoping and pricing for new initiatives or pilot programs. 
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions, quotations, opportunities and activities within the CRM and LIMS. 
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity and industry developments to identify growth opportunities within the assigned territory. 
  • Assist with preparation and management of sales forecasts, budgets, KPI reporting, pipeline management, and analyze sales performance data to provide regular commercial activity reports to management. 
  • Support key account management initiatives and strategic client development plans. 
  • Effectively coordinate sales and service activities with Client Services, Operations, Marketing, Finance, IT and other cross-functional teams. 
  • Complete reporting requirements as specified (e.g. weekly contact reports, quotes, quote summaries) and report on KPIs tied to both direct sales and project contributions. 
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management. 

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Provide leadership, coaching and day-to-day support to assigned sales and business development personnel. 
  • Assist in setting sales objectives, monitoring performance and supporting achievement of regional growth targets. 
  • Coordinate sales activities and client strategies across the assigned territory, NCA and the Americas. 
  • Promote collaboration between business development, laboratory operations and technical teams. 
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding and performance management activities as required.

Education, Certifications, and Experience:

 

 

  • University degree in Geology, Chemistry or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and relevant industry experience. 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in business development, sales, account management or commercial operations, ideally within the mining, mineral processing, laboratory or industrial services sector. 
  • Strong understanding of the mining and minerals industry and laboratory services (geochemistry, OSL, metallurgy) is considered an asset. 
  • Proven ability to develop client relationships and generate new business opportunities. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, negotiation and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CRM systems. 
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.

Bureau Veritas is proud to be committed to providing fair and competitive pay.The salary range for this role is $120k-130k annually with a Bonus plan. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills,  experience, and market location.
