Bureau Veritas is hiring multiple Sample Preparation Technicians for our mineral laboratory in Whitehorse. In this role, you will prepare rock and soil samples for laboratory analysis by sorting, labelling, crushing, pulverizing, sieving, and packaging them.
Previous laboratory experience is not required. We provide comprehensive on-the-job training to help you learn our equipment, processes, and safety procedures.

What You Will Do
As a Sample Preparation Technician, you will:
- Receive, verify, label, organize, and prepare incoming geological samples.
- Crush, pulverize, and sieve rock and soil samples according to established procedures.
- Process samples accurately and efficiently based on laboratory priorities.
- Scan and track samples, equipment, quality-control checks, and completed sample boxes.
- Perform and document quality checks throughout the sample preparation process.
- Stop work and notify your Lead Hand or Supervisor when a quality or safety concern is identified.
- Operate, clean, and complete routine care of sample preparation equipment.
- Report equipment concerns and maintenance needs promptly.
- Move samples, containers, and other materials safely throughout the laboratory.
- Keep your workstation clean, organized, and ready for use.
- Wear required personal protective equipment and follow all health, safety, quality, and ISO requirements.
- Share ideas that could improve safety, quality, or efficiency within the work area.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What the Work Is Like
This is active, hands-on work in an industrial mineral sample preparation laboratory supporting the mining industry.
You will work with rock and soil samples using crushing, pulverizing, and screening equipment. The role includes:
- Repetitive manual tasks
- Prolonged standing
- Frequent lifting and material handling
- Working around industrial laboratory equipment
- Wearing required personal protective equipment throughout designated work areas
We want candidates to have a clear understanding of the environment so they can decide whether the role is a good match for them.
What You Bring
You may be a good fit for this opportunity if you:
- Have completed high school or an equivalent level of education.
- Can understand and follow written and verbal safety instructions in English.
- Can regularly lift, carry, and handle materials weighing approximately 20 to 50 pounds.
- Are comfortable performing repetitive, physical work throughout your shift.
- Are organized and able to manage your time effectively.
- Can follow detailed procedures and maintain accuracy.
- Can work independently and contribute as part of a team.
- Are dependable, respectful, and willing to learn.
- Help create a welcoming workplace by working well with people who bring different experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives.
Helpful Experience, but Not Required
The following experience would be an asset, but it is not required:
- Operating heavy or industrial equipment
- Working in a mineral processing or sample preparation laboratory
- Working in manufacturing, production, warehousing, construction, mining, or another physically active environment

Current Shifts Available
Day Shift
6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Thursday
Overnight Shift
5:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m., Monday to Thursday
Weekend Day Shift
7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Weekend Night Shift
7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
Additional premiums apply to select shifts.
Compensation
- Base rate: $20.51 per hour
- Additional premiums: Available for select shifts
