Position Summary
Reporting to the Sample Preparation Manager, the Sample Preparation Technician is responsible for the accurate preparation of mineral samples using various methods such as crushing, pulverizing or sieving. This individual will ensure all incoming samples are processed according to priority sequence and with adherence to Standard Operations Procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities
•
Prepare geological samples by crushing, pulverizing or sieving according to Standard Operating Procedures without deviation unless authorized by the Manager
•
Ensure fast and accurate processing of incoming samples in priority sequence
•
Scan crushing / pulverizing QC checks and equipment used and boxes to the next station upon completion of pages, as required
•
Perform and document quality checks during sample preparation according to SOP and halt production upon consultation with the Supervisor where non-compliant
•
Operate, clean equipment and notify shift Lead-Hand or Supervisor when equipment maintenance is necessary
•
Comply with occupational health and safety legislation, BV Group Policies and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the position
•
Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE)
•
Provide feedback to Lead-Hand or Supervisor for possible improvements in his/her work area
•
Other duties as assigned from time to time
Experience, Qualifications & Required Skills
•
Minimum high school diploma
•
Previous experience in a mineral processing/analytical lab environment considered an asset
•
Experience using heavy equipment an asset
•
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•
Keen attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy
•
Safely perform physically demanding tasks with repeated lifting
•
Ability to handle weights of up to 40 lbs for prolonged periods
•
Open and inclusive mindset with a willingness to work in a team dynamic
