Job Summary:
The Electrical Inspector – Data Centers conducts detailed inspections of electrical infrastructure within mission critical facilities across Texas. The role verifies compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), IEEE standards, local and state regulations, and client specific design criteria. Responsibilities include reviewing design documents, performing on site inspections of power distribution, UPS/backup systems, grounding, fire suppression integration, and providing technical guidance to contractors, owners, and internal teams. The position also supports project management activities and business development initiatives for the Data Center portfolio. Travel to multiple sites throughout Texas (e.g., Dallas Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio) is required.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform Field Inspections 
•    Inspect electrical systems in data‑center facilities, including: 
o    Power distribution panels, switchgear, and transformers 
o    UPS, battery rooms, and generator sets
o    Grounding and bonding systems 
o    Cabling pathways, conduit, and raceways 
o    Fire‑alarm and suppression interfacing (e.g., FM‑200, CO₂) 
o    Energy‑efficiency measures (e.g., PUE monitoring)
Interpret Codes & Standards 
•    Research, read, and apply the NEC, IEEE 3000, NFPA 70, local building/electrical codes, and client‑specific design criteria. Explain requirements clearly to contractors, owners, and internal stakeholders.
Review Design Documents 
•    Evaluate construction drawings, single‑line diagrams, and specifications for code compliance and constructability before field work begins.
Report Preparation & Documentation 
•    Produce detailed inspection reports, non‑compliance notices, and corrective‑action recommendations. Capture photographic evidence with digital cameras and embed images in reports.
Customer Service & Stakeholder Interaction 
•    Provide professional technical assistance to data‑center owners, facility managers, electrical contractors, and permitting authorities. Maintain effective, courteous relationships.
Project Management Support 
•    Participate in project‑level planning, schedule coordination, and budget tracking for inspection‑related activities. Ensure timely completion of inspection milestones.
Business‑Development Support 
•    Assist the inspection management team with outreach, proposal preparation, and permit‑processing assistance for new data‑center projects.
Office & Administrative Tasks 
•    Perform routine office duties such as data entry, filing of inspection records, and updating of compliance databases.
Other Duties 
•    Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor to meet departmental objectives.

Education, Certifications, and Experience (required)
Education    
•    Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (preferred). 
•    High school diploma or GED + 2 + years relevant experience (minimum).
Experience    
•    Minimum 2 years of journey‑level experience in one or more of the following: 
o    Municipal or county electrical inspection services 
o    Electrical construction trades (industrial, commercial, or data center) 
o    Electrical contracting 
o    Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and specifications.
•    Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints.
Certifications    
•    Journeyman Electrical or ICC (International Code Council) Electrical Certification – mandatory. 
•    Additional certifications (e.g., CEC, OSHA 30 hour Electrical Safety, PMP) are a plus.
•    Multi‑discipline certifications (e.g., plumbing, electrical, mechanical) are preferred.
Licensure    
•    Valid Texas driver’s license (required).

 

Physical and Environmental Conditions

•    Mobility – Ability to walk, stand, and balance on uneven or raised surfaces; occasional lifting of up to 25 lb (e.g., portable test equipment).
•    Vision – Clear distance, near, and adjustable focus vision required for reading schematics, labels, and inspecting detailed components.
•    Environmental Exposure – Daily exposure to temperature extremes (heated/cooled data center interiors, outdoor conditions), dust, and occasional noise from equipment.

Travel Requirements

•    Travel Mode – Use of personal or company provided vehicle; valid driver’s license required. Overnight stays may be required for distant sites.
