Role Purpose:

The role of the Electrical Consulting Engineer is to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide clients with consultative services in relation to their field of expertise. The purpose is to help support business growth through client and business development and delivery of fee earning consultative works.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


The successful Candidate will be expected to deliver the following in line with the Engineering Council standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC):


  • Develop client relationships and win work
      • Collaborate with clients to develop an agree scope of work
      • Create proposal and tender submissions
  • Provide fee earning, impartial and independent technical advice and consultative services
  • Ensure administrative control of commercial contracts
  • Coach, mentor and develop junior team members as required
  • Keep up to date with developments in standards and legislation affecting their technical discipline and supporting change as required.
  • Provide engineering technical input into external trade associations, technical committees, and statutory bodies.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for given field of expertise
  • Promote Bureau Veritas and our unique selling points within the market place and contribute to thought leadership via our marketing department and PR partners


This role will be split between direct delivery of fee earning work (75%) and Business Development (25%).




  • Delivery against key personal and divisional KPI’s
  • Winning work in line with personal sales and invoicing targets
  • Delivering work to client satisfaction, zero client complaints
  • Management and delivery of Client SLA.
  • Ensure own utilisation and profitability figures


Required Qualifications:

  • Higher National Certificate (HNC) or National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
  • Minimum of Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) with relevant institute e.g. Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET)
  • UK Driving licence 


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with relevant institute e.g. Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET)



Required Skills and Experience:


The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a proven track record of developing client solutions and delivering subject matter expertise consultancy within the Electrical discipline. This role will be split between direct delivery of fee earning work and Business Development.


  • In depth technical knowledge of electrical engineering principles and standards
  • Detailed Knowledge and understanding of the safety rules and associated codes of practice that are applicable for one or more of the following sectors:
    • Solar Photovoltaic/Thermal 
    • EV installation and infrastructure
    • Battery Storage
    • Heat pumps
    • Combined Heating and Power (CHP)
    • Wind power
  • Excellent commercial acumen: ability to seek out solutions to client problems and opportunities to sell services
  • Good knowledge of market, industry trends, developments, and changes in legislation
  • Development of client relationships and winning of new work with clients
  • Contribution to business development and creation of tender submissions  
  • Excellent communication skills:
    • Skilled at communicating at all levels of an organisation both formally and informally
    • Ability to write detailed technical reports and use of simple language when corresponding with non-technical colleagues and clients
    • Adept at developing sustainable relationships with colleagues and clients
    • Preparing proposals and presenting solutions and outcomes to clients
    • Negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Managing resources and sub-contractors
  • Understanding of technical documentation such as specifications, drawings, and manufacturing literature
  • Ability deliver technical project management
  • Ability to develop coach and mentor junior staff



Desirable Skills and Experience:


  • Experience of Asset Life Cycle Management
  • High Voltage experience - Senior Authorised Person (SAP)
  • Developing content for and delivering technical training
  • Direct people management
