Senior Air Quality Consultant 

1 office day per week (London or Manchester)


We are looking for a Senior Consultant to join our Air Quality Team, providing our customers with consultancy support relating to all aspects of air quality management. Our team, spread throughout the UK, manage projects ranging from national monitoring networks to dispersion modelling assessments for individual planning applications; we also cover odour and dust management.   


We are looking for a senior consultant to slot into our team. We are looking for a problem solver who is comfortable formulating novel and bespoke solutions, whilst also working to relevant legislation.  


Someone with experience managing projects from cradle to grave in the air quality sphere, including the drafting of proposals for new opportunities. You will sit at mid-level within our team driving the project delivery engine. Through your project delivery you will be working alongside all grades of the team from graduates upwards. This gives you the opportunity to impart your knowledge on more junior staff, whilst continuing to learn from principals and directors.  


Our nationally recognised team of experts includes Chartered Scientists and Environmentalists, as well as members of Defra’s Air Quality Expert Group (AQEG).   


What will the role involve  


As a senior consultant you would be expected to lead and manage projects within the team. This would include task management of junior team members and financial management of the overall project. With regards to technical work, you would be seen as a safe pair of hands for delivering air quality assessments, with the ability to guide junior staff who have less experience than yourself, through the process. 


A typical day may involve assisting with the development of a web-based air quality dashboard on behalf of a local authority or could involve leading an odour survey at a poultry farm. Equally your day might consist of calculating emissions from back-up generators, attending a client meeting to price up a new air quality monitoring campaign, or developing new technical guidance and assessment tools.

Who are we looking for? 


We are looking for someone established in the air quality consultancy industry with around 3-5 years’ experience. Individuals with experience in both monitoring or modelling would be considered, as long as you are happy joining the dots between the two.  


We would expect a solid understanding of air quality assessment within the UK, as well as the legislations and guidance that inform it. A thorough understanding of the technicalities of air quality dispersion modelling would be expected (including the use of ADMS, ADMS-Roads and AERMOD).  


We would expect a good degree in a science related subject, and a second degree (PhD or Masters) would be advantageous. It would be expected that you were a full member of a relevant professional body (IES/IAQM/IEMA) and be open to working towards chartership (CEnv or CSci).  


We would expect the candidate to be a competent user of Microsoft Office applications. Advanced skills in Excel/VBA would be advantageous.   


The candidate would be expected to be a competent GIS software user (QGIS & Surfer).
