Bureau Veritas are seeking an experienced and technically proficient professional to serve as the Technical Focus Point for the Lift & Escalator Discipline. In this pivotal position, you will be the central technical authority, guiding our business and clients through complex regulatory landscapes while maintaining the highest standards of excellence.

 

This role will be remote, must be UK based.

 

Role Purpose

 

To act as the technical focus point for the lift and escalator discipline for the business and clients. To manage new and existing authorisations, approvals and notifications in relation to the BV accreditations. To apply the relevant regulations, standards, guidance & best practice ensuring that the activities are carried out in accordance with ISO/IEC 17020:2012 as appropriate.

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure discipline activities comply with ISO/IEC standards.
  • Foster a strong Health & Safety culture within the discipline.
  • Assist with external accreditation assessments.
  • Define skill codes and manage authorisations, approvals, and notifications.
  • Act as the Technical Focal Point for lift and escalators.
  • Oversee and evaluate personnel competence in your discipline.
  • Manage the review inspection reports and issue certificates or compliance reports.
  • Maintain technical procedures, forms, templates, and guidance documents.
  • Contribute to performance management and staff development processes.
  • Drive improvements to business processes.
  • Support recruitment through technical reviews and interviews.
  • Update and where needed design and deliver training modules for our internal training.
  • Manage non-conformances, ensuring assessment, corrective action, closure, and reporting.
  • Represent BV UK at SAFed.
  • Ensure technical compliance with all corporate and UK policies and procedures.
  • Stay current with developments in standards, legislation, and guidance.

 

What does it take to apply?

 

  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline or
  • Equivalent - Incorporated Engineer or HNC or Eng Tech or Certificate of competence plus 5+ years relevant experience in discipline
  • Ideally a Chartered Engineer or have the ability to achieve this
  • Experience of inspection, testing, design and audit activities
  • Detailed knowledge of in-service inspection procedures and processes in an ISO 17020 environment
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant Legislation, Regulations and Standards
  • Technical Leadership, delivery focus, planning and organization
  • Good communication skills and ability to write technical reports
