Biomass Manager – Fuels Division

Location: Vietnam (HCMC/Field-Based)
Department: Fuels
Reports to: Fuels Business Manager
Employment Type: Full-time


Position Summary

The Biomass Manager is responsible for developing, managing, and expanding biomass-related inspection, testing, certification, and sustainability services within the Fuels business. The role will oversee biomass supply chain assessments, quality and sustainability verification, customer relationship management, operational delivery, and business development activities to support growth in the renewable energy and alternative fuels sector.

The ideal candidate should possess strong technical knowledge of biomass fuels, solid fuels testing, sustainability requirements, and biomass supply chains, combined with commercial acumen and project management capabilities.


Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Develop and implement business strategies to grow biomass inspection, testing, and certification services.
  • Identify new business opportunities in biomass, biofuels, waste-derived fuels, wood pellets, agricultural residues, and renewable energy sectors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with biomass producers, traders, utilities, power plants, and industrial users.
  • Prepare technical and commercial proposals, quotations, and tender submissions.
  • Support regional and global biomass initiatives and business growth plans.

Project & Operational Management

  • Manage biomass-related projects from proposal stage through execution and reporting.
  • Coordinate inspection, sampling, testing, and verification activities.
  • Ensure projects are executed in accordance with company procedures, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor project performance, profitability, resource allocation, and client satisfaction.
  • Manage subcontractors and external technical experts when required.

Technical Expertise

  • Provide technical guidance on:
    • Wood pellets
    • Agricultural biomass
    • Biomass feedstocks
    • Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF)
    • Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF)
    • Alternative fuels
  • Interpret and apply international standards, including:
    • ISO standards related to solid biofuels
    • ENplus requirements
    • Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP)
    • RED II / Renewable Energy Directive requirements
    • ISCC requirements
  • Review technical reports and ensure the quality and accuracy of deliverables.

Sustainability & Compliance

  • Support clients in demonstrating compliance with sustainability and traceability requirements.
  • Conduct supply chain assessments and sustainability verification activities.
  • Monitor market developments and regulatory changes impacting biomass and renewable fuels.
  • Promote health, safety, quality, and ethical compliance throughout all operations.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop biomass inspectors, auditors, and technical personnel.
  • Deliver technical training and competency development programs.
  • Support recruitment and performance management activities.
  • Foster a culture of safety, integrity, and customer service excellence.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in:
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Energy Engineering
    • Forestry
    • Agriculture
    • Renewable Energy
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Related disciplines

A Master's degree is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in:
    • Biomass industry
    • Renewable energy
    • Fuels inspection and testing
    • Sustainability certification
    • Biomass trading or supply chain management
  • Experience managing projects and client relationships.
  • Experience with certification schemes such as ISCC, SBP, FSC, PEFC, or similar is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with international clients and stakeholders is advantageous.

Technical Knowledge

  • Biomass fuel characteristics and quality parameters.
  • Sampling and testing methodologies for solid biofuels.
  • Biomass logistics and supply chain management.
  • Sustainability requirements and chain of custody systems.
  • International fuel and biomass standards.
  • Carbon reduction and renewable energy market trends.
  • Laboratory testing and inspection principles.
