Role Purpose (Aligned to Bureau Veritas, EPC, Owner-Operator)
The Mechanical & Thermal Energy Engineer provides independent technical engineering expertise and assurance across the full lifecycle of LNG-fired combined cycle thermal power plant projects—covering design review, conformity assessment, construction monitoring, commissioning, and performance verification.
The role ensures that all mechanical and thermal systems comply with:
- Applicable international codes and standards
- Bureau Veritas Quality Assurance System (QHSE, Ethics, Independence)
- EPC contract obligations
- Owner-Operator operational, reliability, and performance requirements
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering & Technical Assurance
(BV Technical Authority + EPC Engineering alignment)
- Perform independent mechanical and thermal engineering review for LNG combined cycle power plants.
- Review and validate:
- Heat balance, mass & energy balance
- Thermal performance calculations
- Process design (PFDs, P&IDs)
- Mechanical equipment sizing and datasheets
- Provide subject matter expertise on:
- Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG)
- Heat Exchangers (Shell & Tube, Plate, Air-Cooled, Condensers)
- Gas turbine and steam cycle interfaces
- Verify engineering deliverables against:
- EPC contractual scope
- Employer’s Requirements
- International standards and best practices
2. Codes, Standards & Compliance
(BV conformity assessment focus)
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards:
- ASME (Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code)
- TEMA
- API
- ISO / IEC
- Local regulatory requirements
- Participate as technical expert in:
- Design reviews
- Independent conformity assessments
- Owner’s Engineer activities
- Support HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, constructability and operability reviews from a mechanical/thermal perspective.
3. EPC & Vendor Interface
(EPC execution discipline)
- Review technical requisitions, bids, and vendor proposals.
- Conduct:
- Technical bid evaluations
- Vendor document reviews
- Design clarifications with OEMs and EPCs
- Participate in:
- FAT, SAT
- Factory inspections and witnessing
- Ensure vendors meet technical, quality, and contractual requirements.
4. Construction, Commissioning & Performance Verification
(Owner-Operator perspective)
- Provide site and remote technical support during:
- Equipment installation
- Pre-commissioning and commissioning
- Support:
- Performance testing
- Heat rate and efficiency verification
- Acceptance testing
- Identify non-conformities, deviations, and technical risks.
- Recommend corrective actions and performance improvement measures.
5. Operational Reliability & Optimization
(Asset lifecycle mindset)
- Support Owner-Operators with:
- Thermal system troubleshooting
- Performance deviation analysis
- Assess:
- Reliability, availability, efficiency (RAE)
- Long-term operational risks
- Provide technical recommendations on:
- Debottlenecking
- Efficiency enhancement
- Equipment life extension

- Comply fully with:

- Codes of Ethics and compliance rules

Qualification & Experience Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Thermal Engineering
- Energy Engineering
- Master’s degree is an advantage
Professional Experience
- Minimum 8–12 years of relevant experience in:
- LNG thermal power plants
- Combined Cycle Power Plants (CCPP)
- Demonstrated experience in:
- HRSG systems
- Heat exchangers design & performance
- EPC engineering and/or Owner’s Engineer role
- Prior experience in:
- Certification bodies
- Independent engineering consultancies
- EPC contractors or power utilities is highly preferred
Technical Competencies
- Strong fundamentals in:
- Thermodynamics
- Heat transfer
- Fluid mechanics
- Experience using:
- Aspen HYSYS / Aspen Plus
- Thermoflow / GT PRO
- HTRI / Aspen EDR
- AutoCAD, MS Office
- Ability to independently review and validate complex engineering calculations.
