Planning Engineer
Location: Hai Phong, Vietnam (Project Site)
Department: Buildings & Infrastructure (B&I) / Project Management Team
Reporting to: Planning Manager / Project Manager
Employment Type: Full-time


Position Summary

The Planning Engineer is responsible for supporting project planning, scheduling, progress monitoring, reporting, and project controls activities to ensure successful execution of the Project in Hai Phong. The role will work closely with project management, construction, engineering, QA/QC, HSE, contractors, and clients to maintain project schedules, track progress, identify potential delays, and support timely project delivery.

The successful candidate should possess strong analytical skills, scheduling knowledge, and the ability to coordinate effectively with multiple stakeholders in a dynamic project environment.


Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop, update, and maintain project schedules using approved planning tools and methodologies.
  • Prepare detailed work schedules, work breakdown structures (WBS), milestones, and look-ahead plans.
  • Assist in establishing baseline schedules and monitoring schedule performance against approved plans.
  • Review contractor schedules and verify alignment with project requirements and milestones.
  • Support the Planning Manager in developing recovery schedules and mitigation plans when required.

Progress Monitoring & Project Controls

  • Monitor project progress and collect progress data from site teams and contractors.
  • Measure project performance against planned schedules and key milestones.
  • Perform schedule analysis and identify critical activities, delays, and potential risks.
  • Prepare progress tracking tools, S-curves, manpower histograms, and performance dashboards.
  • Support forecasting activities and identify trends that may impact project delivery.

Reporting

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
  • Generate project planning reports, progress presentations, and management updates.
  • Maintain schedule updates and provide accurate status reports to project management.
  • Assist in preparing schedule impact assessments related to variations, claims, and change orders.

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate planning activities with project managers, construction managers, site engineers, QA/QC, HSE teams, and contractors.
  • Attend project meetings and provide schedule updates and planning support.
  • Follow up with project stakeholders to ensure timely submission of planning data and progress information.
  • Support effective communication between project teams and client representatives.

Risk & Schedule Management

  • Identify schedule risks and potential bottlenecks.
  • Participate in project risk assessment and mitigation activities.
  • Monitor critical path activities and propose corrective actions where necessary.
  • Support development of recovery plans to overcome schedule slippages.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Ensure planning records, reports, and schedules are maintained and documented properly.
  • Maintain project planning documentation in accordance with company procedures and project requirements.
  • Support project audits and management reviews related to planning and project controls.
  • Comply with company HSE, Quality, and project management requirements.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree in:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Construction Management
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Project Management
  • Or related disciplines

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in project planning, scheduling, project controls, or construction management.
  • Experience in construction, industrial, infrastructure, manufacturing, EPC, or engineering projects.
  • Experience working on large-scale construction or industrial projects is preferred.
  • Previous experience with international contractors or multinational project environments is an advantage.

Technical Competencies

  • Good understanding of project planning and scheduling principles.
  • Proficiency in:
    • Primavera P6 (preferred)
    • Microsoft Project
    • Microsoft Excel
    • PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of:
    • Resource planning
    • Progress measurement
    • Project reporting
    • Schedule forecasting
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, project schedules, and construction sequences.
