Within Composite Materials Section of Research Department, the thesis project aims to investigate the effects of the ageing on FRP patch repairs in offshore environment, utilizing the methodology for characterizing bonded assemblies developed in a previous project (JIP StrengthBond Offshore). The proposed PhD project will focus on studying the evolution of interface behaviour after environmental ageing, considering factors such as temperature, humidity, and oil contamination.

This PhD thesis will be carried out within a new BV initiative JIP DuraBond Offshore and will include the following steps:

- Defining the ageing strategy

- Evaluating the effect of temperature and water on bonded assemblies

- Evaluating the effect of oil contamination on bonded assemblies

- Conducting static tests

- Developing a predictive model for the performance of FRP patch repair under environmental ageing

Let's build a world of trust together!

By understanding the degradation mechanisms and assessing performance characteristics, the PhD project will contribute to the development of reliable and durable repair solutions for offshore structures, such as FPSO units, floating renewable marine energy platforms and naval ships, as well as the establishment of guidelines for the qualification of such repair solutions.

Most of this work will be carried out at the SMC (metallic structures and cables) laboratory at the Bouguenais campus of Gustave Eiffel University (France). Part of the working time will also take place in the Bureau Veritas premises in Saint-Herblain and at the GeM laboratory on the Saint-Nazaire site.
