Transportation Engineer Inspector
(This role is Contingent Upon Contract Award)
Job Summary
Primarily inspect contractor construction activity to ensure compliance with the project plans and specifications. The ideal candidate should have a broad technical and practical knowledge of construction methods and practices. The Engineer/Inspector will work closely with the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer to ensure that all contract requirements for safety, quality, schedule and cost are met.
Other responsibilities include:
· Examine and interpret construction plans, specifications and standards
· Collect engineering data, sample construction materials and perform testing
· Inspect non-structural construction operations
· Assist in contract change order (CCO) preparation, review and analysis
· Assist in review and enforcement of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan
· Estimate and calculate construction bid item quantities for progress payment
· Assist in review of contractor submittals including work plans and shop drawings
· Assist in review and enforcement of temporary traffic control submittals and systems
· Provide oversight of activities related to encroachment permits and utility relocations
· Participate in constructability reviews and value analysis studies
· Perform labor compliance interviews
· Perform daily field inspections and produce daily reports, logs and as-built records
· Perform basic construction survey to confirm layout.
· Assist in compliance with safety and health requirements
· Monitor construction activities in compliance with permit and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
· B.S. Civil degree or equivalent
· Minimum of five years’ experience in roadway construction inspection of highways or public works projects
Preferred Qualifications
· CA PE license EIT certification
· ACI grade I certification
· Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written) for interface with clients, project team and contractors, problem-solving skills and responsiveness
· Knowledge of Caltrans Standard Plans, Standard Specifications and Construction Manual
· Knowledge of MS Office Suite and ability to learn project document control systems
· Knowledge of CPM software (Primavera P3, P6)
· OSHA 10 or 30 Construction Certification
