ENVIRONMENTAL LABORATORY SAMPLE LOGISTICS SUPERVISOR

 

This is a Full-Time position with Medical Benefits and Retirement Savings Plan

 

 

As a SAMPLE LOGISTICS SUPERVISOR, your responsibilities are:

 

Supervisory laboratory position that requires knowledge of chemistry and laboratory procedures. 

 

  • Maximize human, equipment and financial resources on a daily basis and ensure that they are used appropriately.
  • Responsible for producing quality client services in the functions of sample inspection, sample login, distribution of samples into the lab, and sample archiving to ensure that client and Bureau Veritas requirements are met.
  • The supervisor will maintain a good working environment in his/her group in order to meet employee satisfaction in terms of safety, training, recognition, and empowerment, and for continuously improving productivity. 
  • The Supervisor will work in close relationship with his/her Manager to pursue the organization's strategic objectives and makes recommendations to his/her Manager with respect to long-term improvements of operations and all related policies and process effectiveness.  

 

Key Accountability/Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead and develop staff, including responsibility for recruitment of new employees, setting objectives, evaluating performance and expectations, coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in the development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided.
  • Coordinate the work schedules, work load and monitor the status of the various work areas throughout the day.
  • See to it that the sample inspection, sample entry, delivery, and sample management practices are executed accurately and within a timely fashion in order to ensure that the client requirements are respected and met according to the high standards set forth by the CS Manager;
  • Participate in the functions of sample inspection, sample login, delivery of samples into the lab, archiving samples and sample management if and when deemed necessary;
  • Monitor and evaluate functional performance of team members, conduct regular coaching sessions, identify opportunities for improvement and develop action plans to ensure continuous growth and effectiveness of service skills and technical expertise.
  • Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to measure individual and team effectiveness, including running monthly KPI stat reports for each team.
  • Provide clear direction, coaching and support to team members to ensure efficient, effective and professional client interactions with internal/external customers.
  • Review, streamline and develop/update departmental processes and work instructions to ensure a high-level “customer experience”, consistency and maximize team efficiencies, while maintaining a focus on quality, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor sample logistics accuracy rates, work with the staff to improve performance in this area and recommend improvements regarding process efficiency.
  • Coordinate requests or recommend resource planning, e.g. need for additional staff or equipment.
  • Develop strategic plans with the objective of preparing the department for continued growth.
  • Provide feedback during budgeting process as required.
  • Elevate significant and complex resource issues to Manager.
  • Provide Management with production and statistical reports.
  • Conduct and take part in meetings to share departmental information, address concerns and obtain ideas for problem resolution and improvements.
  • Develop and nurture ongoing relationship with peers in other internal departments and its customers.
  • Develop and maintain a positive work environment for employees.
  • Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program.
  • Responsible for generating, maintaining and updating SOPs and work instructions.
  • Ensure that employees are following the SOPs and work to reduce non-conformances.
  • Provide information, instructions and assistance to all staff in order to protect the health and safety of our employees.
  • Understand and enforce our EHS Policy as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Provide all staff with proper, well-maintained equipment, plus any other special personal protective devices which may be required.
  • Conduct safety tailgate meetings with staff regularly.
  • Conduct weekly PPE audits.
  • Participate in monthly worksite inspections of their area.
  • Ensure hazard assessments and critical task analysis are done within their area of responsibility.
  • Monitor staff and hold them accountable for their individual safety performance.
  • Ensure compliance with Transport of Dangerous Goods regulations and adequate training of staff.
  • Participate, when requested in internal and external audits.
  • Maintain training records and relevant qualifications.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Availability for shift work, OT and weekend work required

 

You are an ideal SAMPLE LOGISTICS SUPERVISOR if you have [Minimum Requirements]:

 

  • You have a post-secondary school education (B.Sc. preferred) with at least (5) years’ experience in the environmental industry.
  • You have at least 3 years of Team Leader or Supervisory experience.
  • You must be reliable, responsible and a motivated individual capable of establishing priorities and leading a team.
  • You have the ability to coach, mentor and motivate staff.
  • You have the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with Lab Operations and the Customer Service Team
  • You are able to assess problems, recommend and provide alternative solutions
  • You have a positive outlook with ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
  • Excellent written communication and ability to display data and information using Microsoft Office
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment
  • Detail oriented and record keeping skills
  • Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions
  • Ability to learn quickly
