Position Summary

This position will be focused on providing our business partners with technical support and guidance support related to the restricted substances of consumer products. This position will provide services by applying industry standards, materials / testing expertise and associated regulatory requirements to various consumer products for major clients. Provide technical support to clients and liaise with BV’s teams as it relates to consultation, interpretations, program implementation guidance, and technical governance.   

Objective

To provide applied consultation and technical support for clients in the areas of chemical management best practices and related standards, regulations and research. Provide subject matter consulting for topics such as California Proposition 65, PFAS, RoHS, Flame Retardants, Industry Restricted Substances Lists, and/or other chemistry related regulatory, industry standards to support customer compliance or sustainability.

Major Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and direction to internal and external stakeholders related to regulatory requirements for consumer products and their connection to sustainability.
  • Define sustainable material best practices for technical portions of client meetings, presentations and seminars, and develop and deliver service line training presentations for clients and suppliers.
  • Provide direction and guidance on industry best practices and advantages / disadvantages of a wide range of materials including polymers, metals, biomaterials and textile composites.
  • Assist in the development of new test methods / capabilities and serve as the global technical lead to provide consultation to the global laboratory network.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development and Account Management teams to ensure successful integration of new services for existing clients and assist with technical input for prospective client proposals.
  • Contribute to a mutually beneficial client / service provider relationship:
  • Manage, conduct analysis and communicate technical guidance for client / lab questions. 
  • Contribute to special projects (i.e., market studies, compliance manual updates, restricted substance materials matrix, etc.) as requested by the client or internal business partners.
  • Keep up to date on technological changes in assigned areas of responsibilities through industry publications, seminars and working with Subject Matter Consultant in TS.
  • Support Account Team in preparing / delivering presentations, conducting merchant and vendor training, developing training materials and agenda.
  • Primary BVCPS technical contact for all regulatory issues/questions associated with assigned subject matter consultant categories and for assigned strategic accounts.
  • In conjunction with Information Services team perform applied research to support standards development or global requirements research for assigned subject matter consultant topics.
  • Attend related consumer product conferences as needed to keep knowledge and skills current.
  • Use outside consultants and internal resources where needed and directed by CPS management.
  • Interface with local staff members and with other BVCPS locations to ensure global technical consistency regarding regulatory requirements interpretations, client requirements and operations.
  • Provide training to clients or BVCPS staff as needed for assigned subject matter consultant topics
  • Other duties as required by the business at the direction of BVCPS management.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • General understanding of analytical chemistry and restricted substances / chemical management.
  • Must be technically competent in the area of quality systems, regulations, industry standards, and retailer and brand requirements relating to restricted substances found in consumer products.
  • Strong analytical, research, project management and problem solving skills or knowledge.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and familiar with industry databases and websites.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and translate into nontechnical / common terminology.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral, written, presentation and communication skills with complex topics.
  • Ability to prioritize, coordinate, delegate and manage multiple initiatives / projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop / maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external contacts.
  • Strong work ethic / excellent client service skills to ensure effective, responsive client interaction.
  • Must be personable and work independently (remote) as well as in a team (office) environment.

Experience and Educational Background Required for the Job

  • Must have a 4 year degree in General Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry / Applied Chemistry / Physical Chemistry or equivalent such as Environmental Sciences that included chemistry.
  • Will also consider candidates with other science degrees if they have 4 years experience in a direct customer interfacing, technical consultation role where restricted substances was the primary focus.
  • Background of analytical chemistry and/or 4 years of analytical laboratory experience is preferred.

Special Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time in the Americas region, with limited travel to other regions
