Analyst – Industrial Hygiene   

 

As an Analyst, your responsibilities are:

 

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health and Safety Policies when conducting all activities.
  • Review LIMS summary reports to plan and prioritize daily work to accommodate due dates and hold times.
  • Prepares reagents, calibration standards, and samples prior to analysis.
  • Prepare and analyse samples of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy) and PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy) according to documented SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Interpret data, calculate final results, and enter data into LIMS or other computerized systems.
  • Carry out Quality Control procedures and recognize when data is unacceptable using guidelines stated in departmental SOPs.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and calibration of instruments and maintains documentation
  • Assist with training of new employees.
  • Maintain the laboratory areas in a clean and tidy manner
  • Monitor supply levels required and ensure they are adequate to meet operational goals
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as required

 

 

You are an ideal Analyst if you have:

 

  • Post-Secondary Science Technical Diploma or B.Sc. or equivalent, plus 2 years laboratory experience.
  • Prior experience in microscopy. Preference given for previous experience in asbestos analysis using PLM/PCM.
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation.
  • Strong science background and experience in laboratory practices.
  • Competent in reviewing analytical procedures and practices.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Works with a high degree of accuracy, is organized and detail-oriented.
  • Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail orientated & good record keeping skills
  • Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions
  • Ability to learn quickly
