Job Title: Laboratory Service Centre Supervisor, Western Canada

Reports to: Western Sample Logistics Manager

Department: Sample Logistics

Location: Remote, or onsite in Lab, Vancouver, B.C. or Calgary, A.B.

 

Basic Purpose:

Service Centre Supervisor position is responsible for hiring, training, and overseeing remote Customer Service/Logistics employees situated across multiple provinces and territories.

 

Key Accountability/Responsibilities:

 

• Create a positive work culture for employees.

• Lead and develop the team, provide coaching and mentoring and monitor staffing needs.

• Provide training to new and current employees and maintain training records.

• Be open to change. Roll out new processes and procedures.

• Monitor and guide staff as well as hold them accountable for their individual performances.

• Monitor, manage and report out on monthly performance.

• Ensure compliance with company policies, OHS and other legislated regulations, laboratory safety procedures and applicable ISO Quality System SOPs.

• Complete investigations to resolve outstanding issues and put corrective actions in place.

• Escalate issues to Managers when needed

• Review, streamline and develop/update departmental processes and work instructions to ensure a high-level “customer experience”, consistency and maximize team efficiencies, while maintaining a focus on quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.

• Participate in cross-functional meetings, as required, to help ensure customer expectations are met and/or concerns are resolved in a timely manner.

• Coordinate and facilitate team meetings and safety tailgates.

• Approve timesheets, coordinate/approve team vacation requests and organize coverage.

• Complete formal team performance reviews annually.

• Participate in annual departmental budgeting process and provide recommendations.

• Responsible for ensuring "Good Housekeeping" standards are met or exceeded.

• All other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Skills and Knowledge:

• University degree or college diploma in Sciences, preferably chemistry or environmental related and/or equivalent experience

• 5-7 years’ experience in the environmental industry

• Team Leader or Supervisory experience

• Experience in a laboratory environment specifically is considered an asset.

• Excellent leadership, communication skills (both written and verbal), organizational skills and detail oriented

• Ability to effectively interact with colleagues and provide coaching and mentoring remotely

• Strong customer service skills internally and externally

• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)

• Ability to work independently as well as engage others when required in escalation of concerns to meet the client needs

• Energetic and keen with a positive attitude who thrives in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking, prioritizing and adapting to change are required

• High level of work production in fast-paced lab environment

• Flexible working hours, overtime and shift work

• Changing priorities and balancing workload to meet tight deadlines

• Some lifting and carrying (up to 40 lbs) and may involve long periods of standing

The salary range for this role is $63,000-$95,000

 

Paywithin this range varies by work locationand may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
