Mining Laboratory Technician

Location: Campbell River, British Columbia

Full Time Permanent

 

Reporting directly to the Mining Laboratory Manager, the Mining Laboratory Technician will perform routine duties relating to the preparation and processing of samples, including sample preparation, Wet Assay and Fire Assay analysis as well as other analytical process as required.

 

Job Overview and Responsibilities:

 

Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):

 

  • Comply with occupational health and safety legislation, BV Group Policies and Procedures, Upstream Minerals (UM) Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Mineralogical Technician position
  • Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • All stages of sample preparation including receiving and entering samples into the LIMS systems
  • Assist in the preparation of rock and mineral sample and in conducting physical and chemical laboratory tests
  • Laboratory related tasks such as digestion, fusion by Classical Assay and Fire Assay methods
  • Analysis of samples (operating AA and ICPOES instrumentation) and review of data
  • Comply with all BV company policies, OHS and other legislated regulations, mine site and laboratory safety procedures and applicable ISO quality system SOP’s
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time

 

Is there a mutual fit? You ideally have:

 

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in related field (Chemistry/Science)
  • Minimum one (1) or two (2) years’ experience in a sample preparation or in a mineral processing laboratory environment is preferred
  • Previous experience with operating Fire Assay, AA or ICPOES instrument considered an asset
  • Working knowledge with laboratory procedures, WHMIS and GLP
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy
  • Safely perform physically demanding tasks with repeated lifting
  • Ability to handle weights of up to 50 lbs for prolonged periods
  • Open and inclusive mindset with a willingness to work in a team dynamic

Experience:

  • Minimum Education: Diploma in related field (Required)
  • 1-2 years of experience in related field (Preferred)

 

Schedule:

  • Shift work - 12 hour shifts
  • The shift rotation is: work 14 day shifts, then have 14 days off; days only
  • Live onsite during working weeks in the provided accommodations
