Job Title: Sample Preparation Branch Supervisor

Reports to: Branch Manager

Location: Fairbanks, AK

Full-Time

 

 

 JOB SUMMARY:

 

Reporting to the CTD-Branch Manager-Fairbanks, the Sample Preparation Branch Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Sample Preparation team for the branch and coordinating the processing of customer samples by following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe practices.

Work conditions and physical demands: dusty and noisy work environment involving medium to heavy lifting (must be able to lift and carry 75 lbs for 10 feet) and repetitive tasks. There may be some exposure to flammable material and moving mechanical parts.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Comply with the OHS Act and Regulations, BV Group Policy and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Sample Preparation Supervisor Branch position.

- Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Carry out sample receiving, login and preparation procedures in accordance with documented SOPs and other work instructions.

- Ensure proper functioning of Sample Preparation Branch operations by:

 

O Monitoring work flow and coordinating on basis of sample age and priority status

o Monitoring staffing levels and coordinating staff to meet sample volumes

o Training and orienting new staff to the Sample Preparation (including Receiving) procedures

o Overseeing staff and ensuring that Sample Preparation (including Receiving) procedures and other work instructions are followed

o Ensuring current QA/QC protocols are being followed

o Monitoring QC performance of equipment such as: dryers, ovens, crushers, pulverizers, balances etc.

o Maintaining an adequate inventory of consumables

o Practicing good housekeeping.

- Communicate general site issues to the CTD-Branch Manager-Fairbanks as appropriate.

- Report any deviation(s) from documented procedures to the CTD-Branch Manager-Fairbanks.

- Report any unsafe condition(s) observed in the facility to the CTD-Branch Manager-Fairbanks.

- Report any non-conforming work, customer samples or test data to the CTD-Branch Manager-Fairbanks.

- Submit to testing for silica exposure as required.

- Perform other duties as assigned by management.

 

 

Skills and Knowledge:

• Post-Secondary school education or equivalent experience

• Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions

• Detail oriented with accurate record keeping skills.

• Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.

• Strong computer skills

• Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment

• Adapt to a changing environment

• Work both independently and as part of a team

• Must be able to learn quickly
