Field & Laboratory Analyst
Location: Fort McMurray, AB
6 Month Contract (with potential 1 year extension)
This position is located on a client site situated north of Fort McMurray.
Job Overview and Responsibilities:
Successful candidate will be result oriented to produce high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time by following applicable Standard Operating Procedures. Gain full knowledge with respect to field sampling, performing analytical procedures and related quality control techniques to perform duties proficiently.
Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):
- Collection of pipeline samples in the field, perform sample preparation and laboratory analysis according to approved Standard Operating Procedures and in concert with safety regulations; includes performing all relevant Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities required by the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
- Accurate sampling to deliver high quality analytical data accurately and on time
- Utilize a variety of sample cylinders, sample cooling apparatus, bottles and containers to collect samples. Perform sample extraction and preparation (Dean and Stark) on samples in laboratory.
- Independently operate various instruments including ICP,TOC, and Karl Fisher
- Efficiently handle glassware equipment for extractions, refluxes and preparation
- Troubleshoot and maintain analytical equipment
- Ensure adherence to Client and Bureau Veritas’s policies, certifications and accreditation requirements
- Actively participate in Client and Bureau Veritas’s Health and Safety Program (meetings, near miss and incident reporting, hazard assessment)
- Build and maintain good working relationship with our client
Is there a mutual fit? You ideally have:
- Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in related field (i.e. BS, Petroleum/Chemical Technician)
- Demonstrated success in position of a Field Sample Technologist or Laboratory Technician is an asset
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) would be an asset
- Sound knowledge of sample handling procedures to ensure continuity and integrity of samples through compliance with laboratory procedures and quality assurance protocols
- Knowledge of and experience with laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices to handle hazardous materials by taking the necessary precautions
- Excellent manual dexterity, record keeping, calculations and problem solving abilities, along with good mechanical aptitude
- Flexible to perform varying duties to accommodate changing priorities
- Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
- Strong computer skills
- Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced, environment
- Works both independently and as part of a team
- A valid Class 5 Drivers’ License with less than 6 demerits
- Required to wear respirator/SCBA; H2S Alive.
- Ability to work outdoors / remote site year round with supplied PPE and gear.

Experience:
- Minimum Education: Diploma in related field (Required)
- 1 year of experience in related field (Preferred)
Schedule:
- Shift work: 12 hour shifts, regular hours 6:00am – 6:00pm
- The shift rotation is: 7 on/ 7 off rotating days/nights
- Applicants living in Edmonton & Calgary: Qualify for a fly in/fly out schedule and camp accommodation
