Job Description
JOB TITLE: Octane Supervisor
SUMMARY: The role of Octane Supervisor performs routine and non-routine laboratory monitoring, testing, maintenance, repair and training for octane and cetane engines in the network.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Run samples that require engine analysis.
- Serve as the main point of contact when issues arise for the technicians when running the engines or if help is needed
- Provide support to the technicians that are on shift and experiencing these issues in the manner that the situation needs.
- Train employees in the running and basic needs to troubleshoot issues and unexpected results.
- Document the training as it takes place in accordance with our QMS.
- Investigate any questionable results to determine what the root cause of the issue is if any.
- Document any CARS associated with running the engines in conjunction with the quality manager or designated person.
- Represent us during any audits of the engine department.
- Monitor round robin performance with the intention of maintaining a 95% or better passing ratio within the tracking system
- Maintain the octane engines and facilitate the repairs that may be needed with the help of the technical services team or contractors if needed.
- Designate one of the team members and train them to be the backup person to handle these responsibilities in the event that the department supervisor is on vacation or out sick.
- Attend the regional octane group meetings to represent BV and stay up to date on any trends in the industry.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Must carry out duties with strong communication ability and interpersonal skills.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum five years’ experience with engines
- Related experience and/or specialized training
- Demonstrate advanced learning skills
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to properly interpret technical reports related to chemicals and their properties. Ability to interpret scientific formulas.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, AND REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver license required.
