Position Summary:

The Animal Care Tech is responsible for cage wash services, husbandry (rats and mice), and general laboratory support for discovery research. Other responsibilities include daily cleaning and sanitation of animal room and vivarium support space. The Animal Care Technician operates under the direction of management to ensure a quality, compliant animal care program.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide animal husbandry support including, but not limited to: preparing cages for change out and changing cages on a scheduled basis.
  • Provide sanitation services associated with animal rooms, procedure laboratories, necropsy rooms, surgery suites, and other support facilities.
  • Provide general housekeeping services for corridors and support areas (feed rooms, procedure rooms, surgery rooms, necropsy rooms, etc.)
  • Observe laboratory animals for variations in the dietary habits, feces and urine character, health status, unusual behavior and death.
  • Report trauma or signs of disease to appropriate personnel.

 

What You'll Need:

  • Perform daily health observations, feed and water observations.
  • Perform daily health observations, feed and water observations.
  • Perform various methods of animal identification, maintaining records (census, room log, etc.) daily.
  • Perform animal receipt, animal census, technical support, project support, and administrative support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management in compliance with the needs of Veterinary
  • Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks independently and reliably.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and carry out technical instructions independently based on established training plans and written procedures.
  • Awareness and general understanding of established and proposed federal, state and local regulations, guidelines and policies relating to laboratory animal science.
  • Awareness and general understanding of provisions set forth in the "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals".
  • General knowledge of machinery is helpful.
  • Possess strong organizational skills with ability to quickly assess project status and communicate it effectively.
  • Driven, energetic person able to coordinate activities among different areas of the department.
  • ***Work hours***: M-F 6:00AM - 3:00PM. Flexibility required for potential changes in work shift hours. Occasional weekday overtime 3:00PM – 6:00PM may be available and required on occasion.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Degree requirement: Associate's Degree in Science
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience directly working with animals
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in highly detail-oriented environment

 

Offers of employment contingent on successful enrollment of Allergen Medical Surveillance screening program. Vivarium laboratories. For positions requiring medical surveillance, examination must be completed prior to hire as a condition of employment.

An equivalent combination of education (HSD) and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
