Position Summary:

The In Vivo Biologist II is responsible for leading multiple animal studies including but not limited to in-vivo animal handling skills and dosing.  Designing, and collecting behavioral data and presenting analyzed results.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Support multiple in vivo animal studies.
  • Demonstrate exceptional ability to work with fellow lab/team members in order to schedule, coordinate, and execute high-quality in vivo studies
  • Communicate with senior pharmacologist and other lab/team members regarding study activity, scheduling, and/or findings
  • Design and conduct of rodent (mouse and rat) in vivo pharmacology studies
  • Plan the study in collaboration with the senior pharmacologist
  • Be able to carry out Randomize, blind, formulate, dosing of test compounds to study animals using the following mythologies PO, Subcutaneous (SC), Intramuscular (IM), Intravenous (IV), Intraperitoneal (IP)
  • Collect behavioral data of various modalities (manual observation and automated)
  • Independently document clinical observations, video behavioral imaging, dosing times, dosing volume, bleeding times, body weights, food consumption and unscheduled events
  • Collect fluid and tissue samples (plasma, Central Spinal Fluid, other tissues) at study termination and for larger studies conducting by other scientists
  • Is able to train newer associate in animal handling, dosing and video behavioral monitoring
  • Development new video behavioral modeling/scoring
  • Process, label, and deliver samples for analysis internally and externally
  • Analyze data, graphically representing data and statistically analyzing data
  • Record data in notebook, presenting in laboratory/project meetings
  • Demonstrates aseptic procedures
  • Prepare animals for surgery, monitors animals for pain during and post-surgery and administers proper anesthetic
  • Conducts various surgical models, including nerve ligation
  • Demonstrates command of rodent dissection and prosection
  • Coordinates all preparations for the conduct of necropsies and demonstrates proficient dissection techniques
  • Delivers high-quality tissue samples

 

What You'll Need:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in related scientific field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience with animal handling and dosing experience
  • Develop Animal behavior video monitoring, data collection, data analysis and data presentation
  • Demonstrated proficiency in dosing and handling mice and rats.
  • Skilled in sample collection (plasma, Central Spinal Fluid, tissue dissection) and sample preparation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to a changing work environment with changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills.
  • Skilled in small animal surgical techniques.
  • Experience conducting pain-related behavioral pharmacology studies in mice and/or rats.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to document experiments clearly and according to Good Research Practice principles.
  • Interest / aptitude in Machine Learning.  
  • Ensures full compliance with all regulations, including understanding and following all Animal Care and Use protocols.
