Position Title: Technical Manager, CHNOS

Reports to: Technical Services Manager
FLSA: Exempt
Hours Worked: Typically, Monday through Friday, forty-hours per week.
However, must be flexible to meet the needs of the department and complete other projects as assigned.
Position Summary:
The Technical Manager, CHNOS is responsible for providing customers and staff with technical support by performing the following duties and responsibilities personally or through department supervisors and laboratory staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Serves as the subject matter expert for the CHNOS department.
- Serves as a dedicated technical resource to the CHNOS department.
- Provides guidance on analytical problems for department supervisors, group leads, and analysts.
- Reports on analytical problems after a pattern has been identified.
- Develops or customizes analytical methods and standard operating procedures for the laboratory or clients.
- Serves as a resource for various technical training programs (e.g. general, regulatory, safety).
- Evaluates client methods for laboratory capability.
- Troubleshoots analytical systems.
- Keeps abreast of the current state of scientific methodology, techniques, and regulatory guidelines relevant to the operations of the CHNOS department.
- Interfaces with clients as a subject matter expert for the testing conducted in the CHNOS department.
- Functions as a project manager, overseeing client projects from sample receipt to final report.
- Oversees client requested repeat analyses.
- Manages analytical investigations of client samples.
- Responds promptly to customer inquiries and assists customers in determining appropriate test methodology for their particular needs.
- Communicates with customers in a prompt and professional manner to help them understand how to use the laboratory services.
- Advises on the preparation of quotations.
- Handles customer problems that arise from the analysis of samples.
- Completes, maintains, and processes pertinent paperwork and records.
Skills & Proficiencies:
- Able to use MS Office Pro software.
- Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Able to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents.
- Able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Able to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, and sampling theory.
- Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Education and Experience:
- Degree requirement: Bachelor's Degree in analytical chemistry or another scientific field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in analytical chemistry.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
