Position Summary

This position is responsible for reviewing the accuracy of data and serving as a technical liaison with clients. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting standards and regulations, conducting technical training, quoting projects, and working with clients to resolve technical problems.

 

Objective

Provide proactive assistance to clients by identifying General Electrical Equipment (IT/AV and Laboratory) safety issues, along with providing timely and accurate test reports and information to both internal and external clients.

 

Major Roles & Responsibilities

  • Interpret, understand, and apply the requirements and test methods of the main IT/AV and Laboratory safety standards (IEC 62368-1 and IEC 61010-1, respectively).

  • Evaluate and perform construction reviews on products submitted for evaluation to noted standards.

  • Conducts testing on a variety of product samples using prescribed testing methods, following testing standards / specifications appropriate to the sample, providing direction to techs.

  • Accurately record test data and explain test methods and results to assist clients in understanding.

  • Train employees on sample preparation method and test methods.

  • Assist with department testing in other areas, providing direction, as required.

  • Prepares written technical reports and directly works with CB and NRTL reviewers.

  • Perform final review and interpret data / reports, providing direction, as required. 

  • Organizes and monitors workload to meet or exceed laboratory turnaround time and client expectations.

  • Assist in the coordination of technical & administrative aspects of various departmental projects.

  • Provides technical consultation to internal and external clients.

  • Research and development of new testing services / methods / procedures / set-ups, in a limited capacity with direction from senior staff.

  • Calibrate, operate, and maintain testing equipment, maintain supplies, lab cleanliness and analytical instrumentation, as required.

  • Identify, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.

  • Maintains up to date knowledge of current regulations / industry standards and products to be tested.

  • Assists in developing materials for and conducting client visits and educational tours.

  • Provide interpretations pertaining to compliance, requests, testing issues to clients or client services, in a limited scope.

  • Interacts / participates with industry to review and interpret standards in a limited capacity with direction from senior staff.

  • Prepares quotes with client services, assisting with identifying appropriate standards / protocols for testing, providing direction and assumptions.

  • Works directly with the client to get further understanding of the client goals and expectations of various projects.

  • Additionally, works with the client after projects are completed to ensure expectations are met or exceeded.

  • Adhere to the requirements of the BV-CPS Quality System and assist with the implementation and maintenance of the Laboratory Quality System.

  • Provide feedback to department Manager regarding departmental systems, processes and recommendations for improvements.

  • Provide technical support to Technicians / External Clients.

  • Provide technical training to internal staff.

  • Other duties as defined by Manager, department needs and workload.

Additional Responsibilities for Engineer III:

  • Provide technical consultations: letters of opinions, specification manual development, obtaining regulatory information, conducting training, etc.

  • Research and develop future testing needs of clients.

  • Propose, design, and set-up new equipment and train others on use.

  • Identify, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, providing direction to other lab personnel. Assists in making final technical decisions.

  • Works with the business line team to develop and implement technical decisions.  Facilitates sales initiatives and marketing plans for department testing services.

  • Serves as the technical lead on various projects, coordinating with internal and external clients, lab technicians, analysts, associate engineers, and sub-contract labs both internal and external.

  • Supports project quotes in response to client request. The quote will define the scope of work and deliverables. Pricing will be set appropriately to win work and provide profit to BV.

  • Manages large projects guiding engineers and lab personnel to meet project goals

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis tools a plus

  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude

  • Knowledge of testing consumer products from laboratory/manufacturing/QA/QC perspective preferred

 

Experience and Educational Background Required for the Job

  • CQE Preferred  

  • 4 year degree in a technical/engineering discipline (Electrical Engineering preferred)

  • 3-5 years related experience or 2-year degree in a technical/engineering discipline (Electrical Engineering preferred) and 5-7 years related experience
