PROFESSIONAL SURVEYOR & MAPPER

 

 

C.A.P. Government, Inc. is seeking to hire a Professional Surveyor & Mapper. The candidate will be responsible for performing land surveys and monitoring the work of private surveying and mapping companies under contract with client municipalities. An individual in this position may be assigned to function as a professional surveyor, reviewing, processing and approving survey plans, tentative plats, final plats, sketch and legal descriptions, right-of-way deeds, etc., and related duties. The candidate will have considerable independence of action and authority to review and sign plans, specifications, and other documents as a Licensed Professional Surveyor and Mapper.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reviewing and processing record plats, checking municipal atlas sheets, establishing city monument lines and benchmarks, preparing right-of-way deeds of dedication, verifying, and preparing legal descriptions, prepares sketches for legal descriptions.
  • Reviews building plans for permits, indexing, filing, maintaining, and reproducing public records such as plats, surveys, aerial photographs, and construction plans for City employees and the general public.
  • May consult with or assist the Senior Surveyor in consulting and advising Engineers, Land Surveyors, and the general public on issues relating to surveying and mapping.
  • Determining the adaptability of plans and designs to particular field conditions.
  • Performs certified surveys as assigned. May be required to testify in court representing the City as a Professional Surveyor and Mapper.
  • Depending on the area of assignment, may assist the Senior Surveyor in coordinating the selection process of private land surveying firms for contracts with the City. Procuring and distributing survey work among the selected private firms when inter and/or intradepartmental requests for Surveys are received.
  • Depending on the area of assignment, may provide office and field supervision of crews in conducting surveys, performing complex mathematical calculations, checking field notes, and ensuring necessary corrections if needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Considerable knowledge of the theory, methods, techniques, tools, and equipment of surveying, mapping, and engineering survey work.
  • Considerable knowledge of topographic and hydrographic conditions in the Miami area.
  • Considerable knowledge of the types of public works construction projects.
  • Considerable knowledge of mathematics through special trigonometry.
  • Some knowledge of Union Contracts and Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct the activities of subordinates engaged in technical, professional, and sub-professional engineering and survey activities.
  • Ability to deal courteously, tactfully, and firmly with Public Officials and the general public.
  • Ability to advise employees and the general public in surveying and recording procedures and problems.

Qualifications

  • Four Year degree in Geometrics or a related field, is a plus
  • Licensed as a Professional Surveyor and Mapper in the State of Florida
  • Some (6 months - 2 years) experience in land surveying and mapping work as a licensed Professional Surveyor and Mapper.
  • Experience in right-of-way mapping, control surveys, engineering design surveys, utility mapping, boundary, and topographic surveys, ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, platting, condominium documents, construction staking, and as-built surveys.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Work environment is typically performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
  • The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
  • The incumbents in this position will be required to work pre, during and post emergency operations related to tropical storms, hurricanes, and fires.
