The key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Serve as an on-site customer QA/QC representative to ensure quality tools are delivered in a timely manner to support ongoing drilling and completions operations.
  • Operate in and on-call environment with 2 scheduled weekends off per month
  • Quality Assurance & Control: DS-1®, customer, industry, or vendor specification monitoring and enforcement on drilling, completions, handling and specialty tools
  • Actively monitor inspection, assembly, and testing operations
  • Mill Surveillance of drill pipe and casing manufacturing
  • Quality Audits: Quality Management System (QMS) reviews and technical process audits of Rental/Specialty Tool Providers, Inspection Facilities, Machine Shops, and Rig-sites to evaluate conformance to applicable international, industry, internal and customer specific standards
  • Communicate with Project Managers during assignments of job progress and issues
  • Critical thinking and problem solving to ensure a viable solution for our clients
  • Deliverables for all assignments are a detailed report and associated field documents containing findings, actions and relevant technical details of the job

Experience, Skills, and Education Requirements:

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of the Standard DS-1, relevant API specifications, and other applicable industry standards
  • Demonstrated aptitude to read, interpret, and enforce job associated inspection, assembly, or testing procedures
  • Effectively read, interpret, and utilize drawings and technical schematics to enforce client requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to measure dimensions using calipers, micrometers, and scales, reading to within 1/64th of an inch
  • Perform basic mathematic computations and conversions
  • Effective and grammatically appropriate written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to efficiently produce detailed technical reports in MS Office Suite Software (Word, Excel) – to include scanning and uploading supporting documents and incorporating photos into report
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally communicate via email and phone with coworkers, vendors, and customers on a daily basis as necessary
  • Intermediate level familiarity with Microsoft Windows / Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) – to include typing skills and electronic file organization
  • Social and emotional intelligence – proven ability to interact, manage and mitigate conflict with personnel at all levels of industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NDT experience (Level II certifications in MP, LP, UT, VT)
  • Oil & Gas industry experience (3 or more years)
  • Experience with assembly, repair, or qualification of Drilling & Completions tools
  • Experience with DS-1® Vol 3 & 4; API 5DP, 5CT, and other API specifications related to drilling and completions equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, walk, climb stairs, or stand for up to 14 hours with limited breaks
  • Ability to hear: audible shop alarms, safety instructions issued verbally by shop safety coordinators or equipment operators, phone calls from project managers, dispatch and other internal and external company employees
  • Ability to see visual defects as small as 1/64” in tools being inspected
  • Ability to carry a tool bag, computer bag and other personal effects to/from worksite (50lb)
  • Ability to travel via automobile or airplane

Working Conditions/Terms:

This is an on-call hourly position often requiring non-standard and irregular working hours, up to a maximum of 16 hours/day. Technicians will receive either the 1st or 3rd or 2nd and 4th weekends off each month. For months with a 5th weekend, all technicians are on-call. Technicians are required to have reliable transportation with the ability to travel 250 miles from home base. Multi-day, overnight travel may be required. Technicians must provide their own laptop and MS Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook) along with a smartphone from a major cellular provider.
