Laboratory Analyst – Asbestos Lab

(Full time)

As a Laboratory Analyst, your main responsibilities are to:

 

  • Preparation and analysis of bulk materials for asbestos using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) and analysis of air samples by Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM).
  • Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos materials.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work to meet TAT specifications required by the client.
  • Perform quality control maintenance and analysis.
  • Identify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling.
  • Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Assist with ordering supplies.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.
  • Provide general lab support and perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned

 

You are the ideal Laboratory Analyst, if you have a:

 

  • College diploma/B.Sc. degree in Geology, Biology or Chemistry
  • Minimum one year laboratory experience preferred
  • Microscopic analysis experience would be an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of asbestos and provincial asbestos regulations would be an asset.
  • Must be able to distinguish colours in order to perform analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Dynamic, energetic, motivated individual with a "can-do" attitude and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good time-management, multi-tasking and priority setting skills and are able to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible to a changing environment.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Possess good computer skills; LIMS experience is an asset.
  • Organized, detail-oriented with excellent record keeping skills.
  • Must be able to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions.
