Laboratory Technician - Organic Processing Lab

(One year contract position)

As a Laboratory Technician, your main responsibilities are as below:

To provide general support in the analyses of samples and to perform simple sample preparation to extract and analyses samples for the semi-volatile (ABN) compounds, Trace Hydrocarbons (CCME), Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) and Organochlorine Pesticides (OCs) in the Organic Processing Lab.

  • To perform the extractions and analyses of the above compounds in accordance with the SOP.
  • To setup the glassware and station for the extractions.
  • To prepare assigned reagents and/or standards when required.
  • To verify volumetric devices and other equipment when required.
  • To monitor and order supplies for use in the extraction.
  • General lab support including washing glassware, archiving samples.
  • Ensure that cross contamination between samples and other materials does not occur.
  • Use summary reports to plan and organize work.
  • Follow all laboratory safety rules and regulations.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy and quality of work.
  • Keep their work area clean, neat and organized.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

 

You are the ideal Laboratory Technician, if you have:

  • Chemical Technician Diploma
  • Two years’ work experience in an Environmental Lab
  • Good laboratory skills and solid knowledge in Organic testing and requirements
  • Adhere to all safety procedures
  • Good housekeeping skills and the ability to keep your work area organized and clean
  • Good verbal and written skills/ communication
  • Dynamic, energetic, motivated, with positive outlook, and “can-do" attitude.

 

Shift schedule will be afternoon shift on 4 weekdays and 1 weekend
